you compromised and voted for the infrastructure bill without a vote on the larger spending bill at the same time. how much faith do you put in your moderate colleagues, congresswoman, to follow through with the vote next week for that more ambitious plan? >> well, wolf, it's good to see you. look, i think we had a very important negotiation with the six democrats who still needed to see the cbo score and i'm very pleased to report that i think you know, we started to rebuild some of the trust. they committed in writing to doing the vote, voting for the build back better act in about ten days. that cbo information they're waiting for should be here by then. and they really committed that they did not believe anything was necessarily going to change with the information they got, but they wanted to see it. and they were willing to put in writing both the date and the fact that it would be the bill as is so no more dithering about what the provisions are. this is the bill we had, which is what progressives always wanted. so while we didn't get the actual vote and i wish we had, wolf. i'll

they're doing very large things in the pair of bills that have moved. the infrastructure bill, which has already become law, $1.2 trillion of investment, broadband, roads, bridges. and now the build back better plan, which includes substantial investments to combat climate change, efforts to subsidize health insurance for people, child care, expand universal pre-k. there's money for housing in this bill. there's an extension of child tax credits. there's a whole lot of spending in this bill that's going to make a significant difference in people's lives, and these things are not easy to do. that's why they don't get done very often. so the biden team has got a very good reason to feel good, not to mention the fact that completely unrelated, crude oil prices fell to a six-week low today. so you had a combination of things. the biden white house has been battered by high gas prices. so i think they're feeling like a little bit of tide turning in their direction right now. >> this goes to the senate next, where it could hit all kinds of roadblocks. senator

>> i continue to think that he will eventually get to yes on the bill, but as long as the bill has gone on, more and more deals are being made. you are talking about 1.5 to $2 trillion in the package on the move. several weeks ago we talked about how there was money for waste coal, which is the businessman chin is in in the bipartisan infrastructure bill, and he got that. there was recently a toyota investment and he was at the site of a toyota plant talking about how he was going to work on the deals, and all of those things, the bill eventually has to pass. i still think that he's a yes on the bill, but the inflation headlines give him more to reason to talk about delay and during the delay more deals can be paid. >> a couple steps forward yet another step back. earlier this year you wrote a piece for the atlantic, and in it you wrote manchin has skillfully managed his image to stay viable in a state that went from a democratic to republican majority. he has done that by having a keen sense of what issues and bills are popular at any given moment, and of how he can be seen as being on
