there's no question that the people who have held up this bill, both of these bills in both the house and the senate are those moderate outliers. both would have been done had these negotiations proceeded and what we're actually seeing play out is the reason why president biden, nancy pelosi, the house speaker, chuck schumer, the senate majority leader have all wanted to get this build back better bill done at the same time because they're concerned they could never get to yes with som some of these members, and we're seeing how difficult it is right now. >> the day started out in a promising way for president biden. he came out to tout these new jobs numbers, which were higher than analysts expected. the unemployment rate went down, and so where do you feel we are at this hour? >> well, yes, i like your analogy that democrats seem to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. the day did start out strong. the jobs report was better than expected. the revisions to previous months were positive, so things were not as bad in the last couple of months as we had initially thought. they

so in the house you vote for the rule and then the actual bill. so they could claim progress on build back better even though they won't vote on the bill today. s so the big question is will progressives agree and we've talked about this a lot and where the progressives go for this, that right now is something that we don't know. so that is one option that is being floated. but victor and alisyn, as you outlined, they hoped to be taking a lot more federal action on this by this time today and so far we don't have a hard and fast plan as to when any vote might happen and if that vote will happen. >> jessica dean, thank you. let's go to kaitlan collins at the white house. we know the president for the past several hours has been at the funeral of colin powell but he is working to get congress to pass these bills potentially today. >> reporter: not just working, he's directly appealing to them saying you need to pass these votes today. he wabs to see votes on this and yes votes on this and what is what he told reporters today when he talked about the

first, it is now to this bill. what will this money be spent on, what is in the bill? >> reporter: right. now so we turn to the money what they set it aside for and these are items that would you consider traditional infrastructure so we're talking roads, bridges, broadband internet and the railways, airports, water systems. so billions of dollars heading all across the country to various projects that will shore up america's infrastructure and also expand it into the 21st century. that is the idea, the kind of modernize some of the items that haven't been modernized in years and years. and what was interesting on friday night here was just that last-minute scramble, to get this over the finish line. and it took house speaker nancy pelosi really threading the needle between the various factions of her party, getting them as much moving together in the same direction as possible with each side making promises to one another and then interestingly, getting some help from 13 house republicans that supported this bill. that was more than frankly we were really expecting. i

we are also going to get immigration in this bill, something on immigration in this bill. very very important to us as a progressive caucus, and we will fight for that, and we will get those done, and i believe that the president is speaking out of the experience that he has had of negotiating and the conversations he's had with these senators. so i trust the president, he's going to deliver 51 votes, and i think we need to bring the temperature down a little bit. we intend to pass both bills through the house in the next couple of days, and we are really looking forward to allowing the american people to see how we fought for them and delivered so their lives could be better. >> you're going to vote for these two bills no matter what? >> as i said, we're finalizing the pieces on immigration, on prescription drug pricing and on the details of child care implementation but as soon as those get finalized, yes i believe, we'll have the votes to pass both the infrastructure bill and the build back better act through the house. >> congresswoman pramila jayapal, thank you. >> th

i haven't seen the bill yet. we haven't even worked it in the senate. >> reporter: and it's important to note that speaker pelosi has changed her strategy on this. originally, for weeks, she said she wanted to send the build back better act over to the senate as something that would pass the senate, so there wouldn't have to be changes made and it come back to the house and it underscores hearing there from pelosi and manchin that that is likely not going to happen and what does that mean? this is going to stretch out longer because now it's going to go from the house to the senate and then have to pass the house again. so that is a change in strategy, and that does change just how long this process will take. now, remember, as far as the bipartisan infrastructure bill, that's already made it through the senate. it is simply waiting on a house vote. so as soon as the house can pass that, it will go to the president's desk. victor and alisyn? >> jessica dean, thank you very much. keep us posted. >>> let's bring in
