>> good question, kim. i'm an optimist, and i'm a hopeful person, and i'd like to think we are embarking on a new day in this country, a day where police are held accountable, where the notion that, you know, given the power that they have, they understand with that great power comes great responsibility. but i don't think we should read too much into these cases because there are lots of other examples where police officers aren't even charged by prosecutors for conduct that, you know, appears to be clearly criminal. i think we now have at least a roadmap. at least we know there is a pathway for holding police officers accountable in these cases, and maybe it's a wake-up call to any police officer out there that may be thinking, like 10 years ago or 15 years ago, that if they are charged, that juries are going to not find them guilty and not hold them accountable. so i hope it changes the conversation, the narrative that's taking place in police departments around this country. i hope other prosecutors thr

possible protests as jury deliberations continue in the manslaughter trial of former police officer kim potter. there is still no verdict and deliberations will resume in the coming hours. omar jimenez reports there are signs the jury is struggling to reach an agreement. >> reporter: the jury in the kim potter trial ended their deliberations wednesday right at the 24-hour mark over the course of the past three days, and still no verdict. we got an indication that they may be having trouble getting to a consensus after one of two questions was asked of the judge on tuesday. that question simply asked, what happens if we can't reach a consensus. and now moving forward, we're running right into christmas eve and christmas on the horizon, and this judge has indicated she would not keep these jurors over christmas eve and christmas, meaning if they can't come to a decision before then, we would just start up again the week of december 27th. now, the crux of what they are trying to figure out and get to a consensus on is whether former officer kim potter was justified in her shooting and kill

we saw something similar happen with respect to the kim potter trial. they took approximately four days and came back with guilty verdicts on the two counts that she was charged with. so i think the traditional wisdom about how long juries are out, you know, is not holding true in this modern day. juries are taking longer but seemingly that time is being used to be very methodical about the evidence that's presented in the trial process. >> yeah, there was a lot of evidence and they did ask the judge a number of questions regarding the testimony especially. what was your take on the defense strategy though? do you think the old tactics, trying to discredit the survivors who testified, attacking their credibility, portraying them as opportunists looking for a payday? >> it is old, it is tired and it didn't work, john. we have seen it happen time and time again where you attack the victims, you suggest they're lying, you say they're motivated by money. you challenge their memories of events, and jurors are more sophisticated than that. we've heard too man
