we moved to san francisco early on. in the mission district and moved out to daily city and bounced back to san francisco. we lived across the street from the ups building. for me, when my earliest memories were the big brown trucks driving up and down the street keeping us awake at night. when i was seven-years-old and i'm in charge of making sure we get on the bus on time to get to school. i have to make sure that we do our homework. it's a lot of responsibility for a kid. the weekends were always for family. we used to get together and whether we used to go watch a movie at the new mission theater and then afterwards going to kentucky fried chicken. that was big for us. we get kentucky fried chicken on sunday. whoa! go crazy! so for me, home is having something where you are all together. whether it's just together for dinner or whether it's together for breakfast or sharing a special moment at the holidays. whether it's thanksgiving or christmas or birthdays. that is home. being so close to berkley and oakland and s

and tunnel top park and san francisco park, and all of these great, wonderful open spaces in san francisco that are available. and i will say that this park was my saving grace during the global pandemic. i know that many of you felt the same way. because i would come up here on a regular basis in disguise. and i would see the people with their babies in strollers. i would see folks in wheelchairs and i would see people on their bikes and i would see kids rollerskating and i would see them on their scooters and the thing that i saw more than anything else was not just all of the folks who were using this area, but i loved seeing the smiles on people's faces to be able to be out here in this way and to enjoy this incredible open space. so this is a victory for san francisco. this is something that we will be able to treasure, that kids now growing up and going roller skating and hanging out on j.f.k. promenade will be able to share with their children in this city. and i want to really thank so many of the various mommy groups because, man, when moms get together and they want something to

in san francisco, you are impacted by san francisco pride. we feel that responsibility and we love being in the fabric of san francisco. karina: well said. it has been a long discussion, back and forth all pride month on the western of having law enforcement arch in the parade, with or without uniform. with that the mayor, catch us up on all of that. what other feelings now? -- what are the feelings now? >> we are happy the mayor will be in the parade. we reached an agreement with law enforcement, most of the contingent in law enforcement will be in casual attire. there will be some of the brass in dress uniforms, then some officers for security. we accomplished what our board set out to do, and we brought light to that discussion and will continue it later. i think it does the two or three things we set out to do, it is inclusive and the mayor will be there, a great friend of pride. we wanted to include her. i think it is a great solution. there is more work to be done going forward, we are anxious to get started on that next month. but righ

i have been a resident of san francisco for 18 years. since being released from jail, in march of this year on charges i don't believe will stand, i have experienced extraordinary distribution in the matter of housing. i believe that someone what may not have been a member of the hot team was arranged to intercept me and bring me to the next door shelter at 1001 polk. where on multiple occasions i woke up with contusions to my ribs. during the time i stayed there off and on, i have contracted at the very least, a plate. i had my wrist broken to prevent me from filling out forms. i have been denied access to phones, my mail and i have been robbed of clothes and other personal items on the site of the shelter. that is just tip of the iceberg. considering the amount of available housing in the city, that everyone who is homeless is not home is a shame and disgrace. thank you for your time. >> clerk: thank you for your comments to the board. are there any members of the public who are here in the chamber who are wishing to speak to the board

we have had corruption in san francisco. we will have some corruption in san francisco. the failure to our public, particularly around things like homelessness, in my view, is not that the mayor has too much power, i don't think. when i think about the ways in which we have failed residents of our nonprofit operated sros, there are policy and budget choices underlying those failures that i do not know would be fixed by the sharing of more authority with the board of supervisors. i believe that there are benefits to commissions. i think that having a forum where all folks in the public from tenants of public housing to neighbors upset about the city's failures around street conditions to nonprofit executive directors who aren't seeing the city acting in a way that makes sense have the ability to come and plead their case. one could say that to the san francisco board of supervisors we are not functioning in that way to be that place where everybody pleads their case. what we do have are a plethora of bodies that people think might be the homelessness commission, but don't

it is a testament to the city of san francisco. leaders across san francisco. tndc, the mayor's office, to it all of you and a testament to the love for this community. and, it's a testament to partnership. partnership with city and state and the california housing accelerator which jacob mentioned. i'm going to tell you a little bit about that. we have been facing four decades of housing crisis and we were looking at about $3 billion of backlog in permit and shovel ready projects just sitting there that would have left projects like 180 jones in limbo. gavin newsome responding to our urgent need of $1.5 billion. and last september, we released our application process and developers up and down the state responded and we went from permit and approval to award in just 60 days. that is unprecedented. [applause] and, in february, we announced the first tier of 27 projects about $900 million in awards and today we are at number two ground breaking. just two out of 27 have broken ground in such a short amount of time. so congratulations again on that. all of us work
