jeff abell has the latest. >> it was three-years ago when members of a kansas church brought their signs. >> protesting the soldier's funeral. >> and their language. >> this is very evil country. >> to the westminster funeral of lance corporal mathew schneider can killed in iraq. >> thank god for dead soldiers. >> a year later a jury awarded the father a multi-million dollar judgment. saying the protestors violated their privacy. >> i hope they cannot do this to other families. >> take five minutes to get it reversed. >> and this week, a federal appeals court reversed the decision. saying the protestors had the right to free speech. >> the most troubling fact is that in the 44 pages in the opinion, they do not mention mr. schneider's rights at all. >> in its ruling the court decided that even though the nature of the protestors words may be distasteful there is still constitutionnally protected. >> schneider's attorney said it takes it too far. >> first amendment allows people to worship in their chosen religion and mr. schneider's chosen religion was catholic and that's what they were d

. >> jeff abell has more on the top story. >> just a short walk from the johns hopkins campus. there is a community where crime is hitting home. >> at night, there is a time when you have to pack it up. >> early tuesday morning, a home in this community became a crime scene. police say a student, that lives in this off campus home, found an intruder inside of his garage. >> preliminary information suggests that the suspect launched at the student. he retaliateed by striking the suspect with a samaurai sword. got a deep cut on the upper body. along with a severed left hand. the suspect died on the scene. >> according to police, this is the second time burglars had hit this home in the past 24 hours. earlier this night, they broke in and stole video games. >> it is like woah. >> friends say the johns hopkins student kept the sword on top of a cabinet. but was not a violent person. >> he lost control a bit. i cannot blame him. you know, i mean, he already had two episodes that day. >> huge shock, you do not expect to hear someone killed a man with a samaurai word sword. >>the man

jeff abell explains. >> in dundalk, the past five days have been a real drain. on city pipes. city crews. city residents. >> for those two days it was frustrating. >> wednesday afternoon, crews rolled into the area and began to shore up the hole created by friday's massive watermain break. it is a repair job all too familiar for city workers. >> like a river. >> in may, this watermain break flooded lombard street. another one broke in halethorpe. 5000 according to the city in four years. the system is too old city leaders say and too costly to maintain. >> the money we have allows us to do a small amount of that every year. so basically what we're doing is we're chasing down the watermain breaks, and that's a serious problem. >> this situation has prompted senator ben cardin to call on washington to pump more than $35 billion into improving the country's infrastructure. a situation he says is in dire straits. >> federal dollars, according to the city, are critical in maintaining crumbling pipes. >> we have a aging infrastructure, you know, the mandate in upgrading that, came f

jeff abell reports on a possible breakdown in state enforcement. >> it is the end of the school day at baltimore freedom academy. and as students leave class some walk home. but others climb on board these buses. owned and operated by just for you transit. they are buses according to the state that were operating for months without any insurance. >> based on inquiries, there has been a complaint filed open. >> maryland's motor vehicle administration tells us it is now investigating and has filed an uninsured motorist complaint against the company. after the state was unavailable to verify it had insurance. fox 45 obtained these documents, from the maryland automobile association insurance fund. sent to the bus company. notifying it that its insurance policy was cancelled. effective june 25. 2009. >> there is actually some information that said that some of the cars that were in question, that there has been a cancellation. >> but the problem goes far beyond buses. right now the the mva is probing more than 100,000 other cases of uninsured drives in the state. maryland public service co
