the latest victim was shot to death around midnight this morning. 11 news reporter kate amara has more. >> the deadly shooting scenes of the of the new market is a milestone for baltimore police. in the last two years they managed to knock down the city's murder rate to the lowest level in 20 years. but after a man was shot to death and area of the degree reisterstown road and of was baltimore there were six murders and one week. sunday's shooting began just after 130 a m one and 18-year- old was shot several times. he was pronounced dead at a hospital. the next killing came three hours later in south baltimore. a 35 year old gun down in the 100 block of west cross street just before 4:30 a.m.. of those murders make this past week the deadliest baltimore has seen in two months. even so on 11 news sunday morning mayor sheila dixon says she is committed to her crime- fighting plan. >> we have to continue to go of illegal guns. i can't stress that anymore. we are still working on a whole host of issues. and i think we are making those kind of strides. doing -- during these trying times is

kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. a west baltimore priest is letting guns into his church for the seventh time, all in an effort to get them off the street and stop the violence. 21 guns were turned into st. gregory the catholic church. the program offers $100 for each workable automatic or semi-automatic handgun and assault rifle and $50 for any other workable gun. no names were taken. >> we're grateful for the people who turned them in. several who turned them in said they had them laying around the house and they were afraid they would fall into the wrong people's homes, which is the right motivation to turn in these guns. >> after airing the story, the monsignor told you he received more calls from people wanting to turn in their guns. all guns collect ready turned into local law enforcement. >> in this morning's "project economy report," the stawt audit says the state has no money set aside for the fire and police pension system. the report is for firefighters and police hired before 1947. ed gallagher says the p

reporting live from city police headquarters, kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you, kate. prosecutors are beefing up their efforts to see some changes to the state's anti-gang law. several of the state's top law enforcement officials are expected to meet with the house judiciary committee this week to hopefully hammer out tougher legislation. prosecutors argue the existing laws are so watered down it's too difficult to legally define a gang or its members, making the laws useless. they cite a 2007 case in harford county that was thrown out by a judge as proof that the current laws are unworkable. >> the state of virginia is moving forward with its plan to execute john allen mohammed, the man convicted of the 2002d.c. area snipers attacks. the prosecutor's office submitted a request for an execution date of november 9 to the prince william county circuit court. defense attorneys are expected to file an appeal to the u.s. supreme court as well as a petition for clemency. mohammed was sentenced to death for the sleighing of dean myers, one of 10 people shot to death during th

. >> and i'm kate amara. >> first we go to john collins. john, it is cold. we dressed for the weather. >> i think you are, like, a day behind. today will be a totally different day than yesterday. we do expect some sun to breakthrough today, unlike yesterday where it rained all day. today should be a much improved day. we're not quite done with the rain chance yet, because that storm system is still in the neighborhood. at the moment, we have mostly cloudy skies in the area. temperatures in the low 60's. it is cool, but not cold. yesterday morning temperatures were like 56, 57, 58 degrees at this time. and all the rain this morning is north of us. you can see the spin in the radar echos there. that's the low pressure center, which is roughly to the northwest of philadelphia if you look at where the center of that spinning is. there is also rain back in western pennsylvania and parts of ohio as well. the storm system will be wobbling around nearby. clouds, yes, sun as well. i can see the moon as well out there. temperatures on the cool side. we'll detail this

kate amara is live and has the latest. >> please tell us as they began to look into the death of dr. carrie john, they stumbled upon a drug-growing and drug- smuggling operation. dr. clinton mccracken was arrested after his live-in girlfriend the died of an apparent drug overdose. 29-her old doctor carrie john injected herself with a deadly dose of a drug used to treat heroin addiction. >> these were two pharmacists that had been involved in some type of drug operation inside their home. >> it was an marijuana growing operation which describe how the couple met huge cartons of marijuana on every floor of the home. police say they found other drugs inside the residence, which mccracken allegedly admitted he bought from an online pharmacy from the philippines along with this fatal dose. >> they would -- the drugs were hidden in stuffed animals. >> the dna is likely to get involved. mccracken was already on the radar of u.s. customs agents for shipping in illegal drugs in a fedex packages. he had yet to be charged in connection with the overdose death. >> under maryland law, the state's

kate amara has more. >> for one day it was one-stop shopping for dundalk residents flooded out by last friday's water main break. they got face time with officials from county and state agencies as well as nonprofits like the salvation army and the american red cross. >> the clients could check in and go from station to station trying to get service that are available to them. >> most of the seats inside the water's edge community center were filled as county and state staffers helped folks solve insurance problems and apply for financial resource that might be available. outside volunteers handed out everything from bleach and bananas to hot, home-cooked meals. stacey said she cleared her calendar to be able to help. >> we're doing our best to meet what the clients need from flood to no it power to however they've been impacted. >> one resident told bus a new problem that popped up after the water was pumped out of his home. >> develop a sink hole where somebody can walk in my yard and get hurt, then they'd be trying to sue me and the county won't do nothing about it. >> the supplies

." >> and i'm jennifer franciotti in for kate amara. first we want to check outside with john collins. there is fall in the air. >> some of the readings this morning are in the 50's. i don't know if you -- they are not that thick. i can see a few clouds filtering through. the presence of those clouds does mean something. yesterday morning the clouds do mean rain. the sun finally broke through. it turned out to be a nice day today. things are reversing themselves, and what was rain pushed to the south of us today is kind of coming back at us now with a new system that will push a lot more rain our way. yesterday's rainfalls were generally less than a 10th of an inch. this new system coming in, although it doesn't look impressive on the radar now. what we do stee is light shower activity. this initial stuff won't really affect baltimore. it won't be until later this afternoon until this evening that we expect things to start to wet down so to speak. i will have more details on the forecast. >> our big story comes out of frederick county.
