the problem of north korea is regional. to solve it will require the cooperation of all the stakeholders nations of the world. our immediate task as stakeholders is to find ways to bring north korea back to the six party talks aimed at thenorh korea's denuclearization. south korea's current policy is based on reciprocity toward north korea, conforms to the goals of maintaining peace, developing corpand cooperation. it puts precedents on denuclearization of the north up. and has yet to induce the north and in negotiation. cooperation and consensus among the main stakeholders among the united nations, the u.s., korea, china, russia, and japan is essential. all of us must be prepared to work not only to avert nuclear crisis, but also as president obama has said, to offer north korea a different choice. in this endeavor, the u.s. alliance which had been a pillar of stability in that region will be a foundation in which to move forward. as well, peace and stability on the korean peninsula is a key interest to china. its role and

what about the north korea situation? >> well, back in the campaign, there was this tense exchange between president obama and his now secretary of state hillary clinton on the question of engaging dictators and engaging space and certainly one of the people that was at the center of this exchange was kim jong-il. the president made a commitment to engage dictators that's exactly what he's done. i don't think he's done it very successfully. what we've soon is a series, not just one, a series of provocation from north korea, one after another after another and a series of overtures of the obama administration sometime as if they're in concert with one another, a culmination of back and forth that ended with this final meeting just in recent weeks, the u.s. envoy, steven bossworth meeting with his counterpart bilateral meeting, which i think was a tremendous boost to the legitimacy of a corrupt regime. if you had to judge after the first year, korea is winning the first round of diplomacy. >> raising the pandemic alert to t

and how do you deal with iran or north korea or venezuela for that matter? thank you. >> concession is what you have an initial positioning in a bargaining and whatever you renounce is a concession that you make to the other side. usually the other side tries to minimize -- you try to the concession and the other side is trying to minimize the significance of it and that's part of concession and part of bargaining. so concession is obviously part of the vocabulary of compromises. i don't use it that extensively, but it's there. now, the case -- i mean, the gain, what to do in particular cases as i said -- there we should really be very careful about the facts and just more rhetoric can be dangerous as it was in the case of iraq. namely blinds us from what actually happens. for example, iran is not just mahmoud ahmadinejad. it's a very complex society. and i won't define the rules of the mullahs in iran. as an inhuman regime. i don't believe that's true. i think it's -- i mean, it's too trivial to say that i'm against it. but i don't -- that's in my vocabular
