but we start with bob turk. >> i've been watching this snow and precipitation. take a look at radar, the latest indications are west of hagerstown we're starting to see it taper off. we've to deal with it till 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. the least end of this steady stuff just past hagerstown. over towards fredricks, light to moderate snow. it's a mixture of snow and rain and in the beaches just seeing light rain. i think we will see probably till about 2:00 or 3:00 3:00 in the morning. snow started to move toward the region, you can see how it progresses from north to east. bernadette is in the outback, yes in some snow right now. we'll take a look at the current watches and warnings. and what we can expect from this particular storm. >> reporter: this is such a different storm from what we had over the weekend. nice fluffy snow during the weekend. today a very wet, heavy snow. it has created wet surfaces. initially when the snow started piling on it, and now packed. in the surrounding areas that's where there's a winter weather advisory. that corresponds to o

bob turk and meteorologist bernadette woods are following the latest system. bob? >> reporter: let's take a look at radar. we've had a lot of sun in the baltimore region. they are getting precipitation. most of it is a mix of rain and wet snow. temperatures still pretty slow. but it's headed pretty much to our southeast. right now, this batch of storms is headed to the eastern shore. looks like it will continue at least throughout the evening hours. won't say anything in the baltimore, washington area until late, late tonight. take a look at this map. beginning late tonight, for most of the region, most of the day tomorrow, winter weather advisories. sore if -- or if you're in eastern shore, they're expecting more winter storm warnings will go into effect. we do have the watches and advisories in effect. how much are we going to get from this particular system? bernadette joins me now. bern? >> reporter: this is a very messy storm we'll be dealing with. it will come in in a few different phases. the biggest story will be with the wind. i want to show you around the

bob turk and meteorologist tim williams are tracking the system. let's start with bob, with a look at radar. bob? >> reporter: until about an hour ago, things are kind of melting. wasn't that bad. temperatures have dropped. of course, the sun is going down. as you can see, it's beginning to accumulate on the roads. take a look at radar. this is a huge complex of moisture. these are heavy echoes. some of these will bring us two to 3 inches of snow in one hour in some locations. that's why we have such high snow totals for this particular storm, in addition, as the storm developing off the coast, the winds will pick up later tonight. we have blizzard warnings in effect for some areas. visibility will be greatly released -- reduced. honestly, please stay off the roads. tim has a look now at the warnings that are going into effect tonight. >> they're already in effect, as you mentioned, bob. we're looking at winter storm warnings in effect for the entire state, basically. and the updates are that blizzard warnings are now being added to some parts of t

. >>> let's go to bob turk who is tracking the storm from the weather center. >> we have a lot of rain to our south. that rain is going to translate into heavy snow by the time it moves north into our region. because we'll have enough cold air in our region for that to be in the form of heavy snow. because of that, we have winter storm warnings in effect beginning tomorrow all the way through saturday afternoon. the entire region, even has winter warnings because of strong winds snowing and whipping wind. any where from 1/16 to 2 feet or more. we'll be back with a lot more on this storm in just a few minutes. >> our first weather coverage in canton, kelly mcpherson has more with preparations on the way. >> reporter: we just heard from southwest airline, they've cancelled all of their lights on saturday on vwi and some of their afternoon flights as well. here in canton, this is the epicenter to make sure they are stalled for all of maryland and beyond. salt trucks take over a portion of baltimore as worry of ice increase. >> everybody is scared they are going to run out of salt. >> repo

bob turk. >> you may hate me by saturday. >>> let's take a look at temps around the region. clouds around the region. still pretty mild. 35 ocean city. 30 in oakland. the dew point, however, is still pretty low. 18. that means tomorrow, when precip begins, the temps will back down in the 20s. it will cool things down. a around the local region. we're talking low to mid-30s still in the area. but once again, temps will probably struggle to get into the upper 20s. we just updated a snowfall accumulation mat. there's so much moisture coming in with this system. we think if we get all snow and no sleet, you may see 16 to 24 across the region. some spots may get measure two to four feet of snow with this. a record for february for baltimore, is 22.8 inches. it's possible, i'm not sure if bwi might see that. north and west, probably pretty good chance. 8 to 16. 4 to 8, even from louis down to southern virginia. right along the beaches. maybe less than four inches. but that's right along the immediate beaches. take a look at temperatures around the region. as you just mentioned, 37

meteorologist tim williams and bob turk are busy tracking the system right now. bob? >> as you've seen, we've seen a few pockets of moderate snow. take a look at radar. heavier snow to the north of us. right now, light to moderate across the region. there's a heavier band south of washington. that's going to get us in about an hour or so. and some of those bands can produce a quick inch, inch and a half of snow in an hour or less. and even more to the south. we could each see some areas later tonight. we could see 2 to 3 inches of snow in one hour. that's why we have such snowfall toilets for this particular -- totals for this particular storm. tim has a look at blizzard warnings just to our south. >> we have really seen some imprisev, basic -- impressive, basically estimates we've seen here by way of snow and way of winds. winds really drive these snows. the dark blue is the winter storm warning that went into effect yesterday. basically saying this storm was eminnocent. the winter -- eminent. the winter storm warnings are making way down through southern maryland. b

but we begin with bob turk in the weather center. bob? >> just beginning to get going. beginning to accumulate on the lawns for sure. temperatures are beginning to fall. but we have a long way to go. this is just the tip of the iceberg, literally. there are very heavy bands in the precip to the south. most of this will translate into heavy snow. we could see snowfall rates later this evening, after 8:00, 9:00, up to two inches an hour. i'm not kidding. this storm is going to be a really monumental storm. could be record-breaking in some locations. tim has an updated look at the watches and warnings, including blizzard warnings. >> as you mentioned, bob, the watches and warnings have been in effect. now we are looking at watches and winter effects in the blue shaded area. blizzard warnings are now affecting the western shores of the bay, right along the water's edge. we have already seen them in effect for the delaware beaches, up toward new jersey and the beaches toward that direction. but this is going to be in effect through, again, tomorrow evening. they go into effe
