the hits keep on coming. 28 at bwi marshall. this snow sticking right now. easton at the freezing mark on the western part of the eastern shore. not much wind now. one of the biggest concerns of this storm is as it moves off the coast tomorrow some very high winds coming in will blow it everywhere. we could get significant drifting into the early part of thursday afternoon all the snow quits. large storm system all across the east coast right now. snow as far back west as southern wisconsin. heavy rain and storms developing off the carolina coast. two distinguished areas of low pressure. one south carolina. it will double up and most east. heavy snow overnight mixing with sleet on the eastern shore west of the route 50 bridge. tomorrow it all changes to snow as the winds intest fie and the storm moves offshore. 28 tomorrow. heavy snow. near blizzard conditions. it tapers off tomorrow night. wins will stick around into the day on thursday and blow the snow. thursday morning we could deal with blowing snow. finally a chance to dig out friday and saturday. look

we are 31 at bwi marshall. snow doing a better job of sticking. 30 in easton on the eastern shore. it only goes down to the 20s. as the snow intensifies the wind picks up and we get into a near blizzard situation. with that in mind we want to get the lathes on what the storm is doing outside. >> it is almost like clock work within the hour before sunset if it hasn't been sticking all day, that was the only benefit we got today. as it came in the roads stayed wet. got pictures in. we got one from my old friend george jackson on the eastern shore in care line county. there is a higher water content which means we may not get one inch of snow like most storm. we may mix sleet with warmer temperatures at cloud lever. tomorrow temperatures take a nose dive. then we get lighter fluffier flakes. that comes with wind-driven snowfall. more on that let's go back in the studio and get the rest of the updates. >> heavy wet snow that will be something to deal with in terms of power lines and everything else, too. thank you so much. we'll see you again in a few minutes. we want to see what it is

we had almost five inches at bwi marshall last night. belair three inches. we thought a three to five inch range would be accurate. new winter storm watch already up for maryland. more on that in a second. right now 38 degrees at bwi marshall. northwest wind 3 miles per hour. sunshine. temperatures up around 40 degrees. clouds build in later in the day. frederick picked up five inches. again you can see a decent weather day. i want to show you this. our morning lows around 31 at the maryland science center. a lot of 20s across the board. cold enough to have the snow stick overnight. it was a wetter snow consistency that held accumulations down. high temperatures today a big rebound. 48 millersville. these are the weather bug sites. you can see the contrast. low to mid 40s. that is the kind of weather that really gets a lot of snow melting off. it is a good thing. we have more coming. temperatures now have dropped off into the upper 30s. high temperatures today all across the state rebounding sharply into the low 40s. i do think one similarity we'll get more

right now we have light to moderate snow at bwi marshall through annapolis. we have snow in frederick and heavy snow reported back toward hagerstown. this will intensify as it moves west to east. again, all though i done see any surface reports at the top of the hour for sleet on delmarva we think the eastern shore may be getting pelted by light sleet. this is impressive. we were just looking at this. you can see the storm west from east. we bring in the snow. it continues overnight tonight mixing in with snow. winter mix toward the delmarva area. through the day tomorrow we all pick up snow. then the wind intensifies. as the low moves offshore if you look to the right of the screen you can see a donut hole. that's an indication of a powerful low pressure area. then you can see a secondary center of that low back forming a little closer to new jersey. that will mean a tremendous amount of wind. tomorrow night that's even as the snow wraps up. this is going to be a monster storm that we have to deal with. you don't see that show up on the model like that all t

local airports including bwi marshall have remained open. they are very few flights going in and out. airlines have closed down operations. there are a few flights. don't leave your home unless you call and confirm that your flight is still scheduled. very few flights will go out the rest of the evening. most flights have been canceled for tomorrow. we want to make sure folks don't go out on the road unnecessarily. with regard to transit activities. bart commuter trains and bus worked well through the afternoon. as the traffic peak was in the afternoon that's the peak we saw with regard to transit. hopefully most those folks have arrived home safely. we'll continue to maintain service in the washington region on rail. until the snow exceeds six to eight inches. light rail metro in baltimore. we will continue our normal operations. we will have the customer service centers open all weekend. we hope to keep operations running as long as we can. with regard to the bus service in the city the city will help us keep major roadways clear. again yo

as of midnight bwi thurgood marshal are airport reported 4 inches. we could see an additional 12 to 18 inches in central maryland, but down to the south where steve was talking about, the temperatures in the mid-30s right now dealing with plain rain but as it switches over, they could see 7-14 inches of additional snow for tonight and through the daytime through today. the snow fall record. we did beat a record. we're the snowiest snow fall season. we beat that 95, and 96, of 52.5. we're now 64.4 and we're going to continue to add to that number through the daytime through today. the snow showers are going to be out there, and temperatures will be out there with 29 degrees and breezy conditions. that's going to be the main concern for blowing snow later today dropping to 23 degrees. the good news is we're going to have some dry, sunny days. the other good is that temperatures aren't going to be too warm because we're not going to be concerned about flooding. he we will have a little bit of gradual warming, sunny days which will allow for gradual melt
