it's a shooting overnight involving a concord police officer. and our anne makovec is in concord where officers say the man flashed a gun at them. anne? >> reporter: yes. i'm standing at the intersection where this all began about 4 hours, clayton and ashbury, here in concord. you can see ashbury is still closed down. the actual shooting scene was at least a block away. but police have the whole area on lockdown. it's a residential area flanked by several businesses here in concord. police apparently recognized the man at around 2:30 walking down the street. they wanted him on robbery warrants and they told him to stop and he started running away. officers started chasing him down ashbury in their vehicle. he got halfway down ashbury when police say he pulled out a handgun. they can't say, though, whether or not he pointed that handgun at them. the officers got out of the car. he was shot and wounded and taken to john muir hospital with undisclosed injuries. at this point a police spokesman says he doesn't know if this man is even the robbery su

concord police shoot and wound a pedestrian. theresa garcia joins us to explain what happened. >> we just found out that two officers were involved in the shooting. both fired their weapons at this one suspect who also drew a gun at them. take a look behind me. first off you've got the crime scene truck that just pulled up. those investigators have gone down the street. that's ashbury where you see patrol unit cars. what happened at 2:30 this morning is a man was walking down the street clayton road. they spotted this man who they believe fit the description of a man wanted for several robberies. they're not very clear whether those robberies were here in concord or elsewhere. but he fit the description. they tried to stop him. he ran down ashbury and one point turned around, pulled his weapon and pointed it at them. we don't know whether the suspect fired his gun but those two police officers did fire their weapon hitting him. the extent of his injuries, not revealing that but he was taken to the hospital. the suspect is in his

police say they were forced to shoot a man early in concord this morning. jade hernandez has been talking with officers. she joins us now with the new information. jade. >> reporter: good morning. it's been four hours since the shooting took place officers are still out here. they have moved media away as far back as two blocks. we have new pictures to show you right off the top. concord police have brought in the sheriff's office because the shooting involved two officers from within their department. the officers were not hurt. both have been placed on paid administrative leave. we have a better idea of how this shooting happened right now. two officers in a squad car patrolling the neighborhood around 2:30 this morning noticed man who matched the description of a suspect who was wanted on outstanding robbery warrants. the officers tried to make contact with the man and he ran from them along clayton road. at some point the offers got out of their car and ran after the man who is only being described as man in his early 20s. we're told the man pulled out
