that does include washington, d.c. and most of the close-in counties particularly to our north, south and east. out to the we, it does include fairfax county, parts of fauquier county, places like that. i will mention this. for those of you with relatives down there, there is a tornado warning in effect until 5:45 around the virginia beach area this morning for virginia beach, norfolk and the eastern city of chesapeake. so that is a tornado warning in effect down to our south and east. now, let's get to hd radar. i just want to mention while we are atalking about these tornado watches that are in effect, this is how widespread the system is. tornado watch is in effect for portions of the district of columbia, delaware, maryland, new jersey and the costal waters. we are particular will you currented about our friends in anne arundel county, calvert county, places like that where they continue to see -- look at annapolis, right now under the gun. cape st. clair under the gun with very heavy rain. they just keep getting t

right on the border through d.c. pretty much all of eastern virginia and eastern north carolina is under this tornado watch. again, we have a couple warnings out there near virginia beach at this time. but that's about it. so we'll watch isolated weak tornadoes. i don't think we're going to see a tornado outbreak but could see weaker ones. these bands of rain have been impressive. the center of the storm you can see a spin as it heads up toward raleigh. but these streamers off the coast we're getting drenched and a training rain effect. flash flood warnings through much of eastern north carolina. now that heavy rain is making its way through d.c., baltimore and philadelphia. and now the rain is beginning on long island and new york city. it's going to be a very rough morning commute all along i-95. the winds will be picking up during the day today but the heaviest rain looks to be from d.c. to baltimore to philly and eastern portions of pennsylvania are going to see a lot of rain. our computers are estimating anywher

the appointed mayor of d.c. at the time mayor richard wallick supported and envisioned a school within reach of every child, his words, and a building where beauty, elegance and pride would be when you walked in the door because at that time schools were basically rented rooms or held in makeshift buildings. coincidentally, the first public school for white children was named for that mayor. it's called the wallick school located at 7th and d. streets in southeast in 1862. just three years earlier than the lincoln school was established. now, here's the sad part. i could find out everything about the wallick school, demolished in 1950. hine junior high school son the site now. couldn't find a thing on the lincoln school. >> it's so significant and begs the question how did the people writing the catalog know about that school? >> how did they know in the first place? >> there should be some kind of recognition about the school. >> there are historical markers all over there. i'd like to thank yvonne and helen at
