matt ackland is live on capitol hill with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is a big fight still on the hill. although it was passed six months ago, there are still many republicans out there that would like it repealed and a lot of people are talk bath mid- term elect and what happens after that should the republicans take the senate and the house. the president is out and about touting this new reform that goes into place today benefiting millions of americans out there. he was in falls church yesterday telling folks just how this reform works and how it will help many americans. with democrats facing tough mid- term elections, president obama turned to backyard politics, turning back the clock to one of his biggest victories. >> health care was one. those issues that we could no longer ignore. >> reporter: the president touted his landmark law along with a backyard full of supporters in falls church, virginia. >> i expect that it will make a big difference if my life and that of other people word affected. >> i would have been so stressed out and worrie

matt ackland joins us live from northwest d.c. where it is quite a sight out there on the side of the road. >> reporter: have you guys ever seen anything like this before? it is remarkable and it is actually really, really sad. we are right here in columbia heights at otis place and 11th street. take a look at t it goes about a half a block this way, half a block that way and it is piled up. it is just about anything that you can think of. eloisa diaz told me that what she does is she buys up this stuff and she takes it back to her home country of venezuela. she fell on some hard luck recently. she seduced to take care of elderly folks and they are moved into a nursing home so she lost her job. yesterday, she was evicted from her home and all of this stuff was put out on the sidewalk. now, she tells me that she had everything tidy and neat inside her home, that this is a system that she has. although it looks like it is a big mess here, if you look closely, everything is really stacked up pretty nicely. everything that you can thi

matt ackland has more. >> reporter: 4-year-old danielle alle was born in guatemala. she lived and worked about a block from where she was hit saturday night. she was struck just a few feet away from her boyfriend's home. >> i heard a thump. it sounded like a car had hit another car. >> reporter: montgomery county police are doing all they can to find the driver of what they believe is a small, dark sedan, possibly a honda. they say the force of the impacted caused some damage and even a piece was left behind. >> it did leave the right-hand side exterior mirror on the scene after it struck her. >> reporter: many drivers ignore the speed limit, wear told, even with a school just across the street. >> i seen a crossing guard almost get hit trying to cross the kids to school. so people don't go by the speed limit. >> it is a busy street. you have to actually look and see what is coming, make sure you are out of harm's way before you get into your vehicle. >> reporter: family members were too upset to speak to us on camera but they did wanted you to see danielle's face. t

fox 5's matt ackland has more on the arrest. >> reporter: this mugshot was sent to us from officials in jefferson county, new york. 22-year-old siyamand salehzadeh is sitting this in jail for an alleged crime that happened here at this mini land daycare in centreville. police say he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl. >> we obtained warrants on friday, september 24th. >> reporter: but the daycare worker was nowhere to be found. authorities put out a nationwide alert. they say he was trying to cross into canada from new york state. >> he was crossing over. he was detained by u.s. border patrol and turned over to state police. >> reporter: officials at miniland private day school sent us this statement saying it has met with all parents and staff and continue to offer support during this difficult time. but police say they don't believe any other children are involved. still they are advising parents to speak with their kids. >> kids don't understand, but they know when they don't like something. they know when something doesn't feel right. so we encourage open communication with you

matt ackland joins us live from capitol hill to break it down for us. >> reporter: good morning. it is hard to believe it's been six months since health care reform was passed here on the hill. what we are noticing in the last day or so is that the obama administration is using this victory six months ago and taking it out on the campaign trail to help democrats with the mid-term election. in fact, the president was if falls church, virginia talking about how hundreds of thousands of americans would benefit from this new legislation. starting today, some of the changes include allowing parents to keep kids on their insurance until 26. coverage cannot be denied for preexisting conditions. there are no lifetime limits on benefits. and most preventive care will not require copayment. the fight against this reform is still under way. some states including virginia are suing the federal government over this legislation. >> they didn't really mean it when they said it would bring down costs. in point of fact, costs of going up. i don't think it is any surprise democrats aren't running
