look at this, minnesota, south of minneapolis. the floodwaters are nearly touching the rooftops. in south dakota the flooding forcing a many to evacuate by use of a small boat. in wisconsin, we evacuated 400 homes. and 3' floodwaters surged through the city. the flood threat for several states far from over? >> yes, the water has to go somewhere. it has been a wet summer. in general across there area. a lot of areas have had much rain and then with this rain unlawful in minnesota and wisconsin and you can get significant flooding. look at this, this is the radar estimate for rainfall: where you ease the red it is 6" to 10" and south of minneapolis line but many areas are seeing 5". significant rain. the worst of the rain is gone from the area, a little bit more today and we are going to get cleared. the southeast and mid-atlantic, get ready for significant rain. we have drought going on. that will be beneficial when it moves on later in the weekend and monday and tuesday. >>reporter: there is a tropical storm brewing in the caribbean. is it headed to the u.s.? >> very interesting

and south of minneapolis is where we saw some of the worth flooding. some areas in minnesota received 10 inches of rain. it takes a long time for water like that to recede, because you have the runoff from all the streams and rivers trying to settle back to normal. look what's happening in iowa, into areas of indiana. the rain is a little lighter towards areas northward toward minnesota, wisconsin. but it's still going to be tr h treacherous out there. parts of texas and louisiana, just south of dallas, some of the rain has been a little hard. let's zoom in right here and i'll show you low pressure across parts of areas of the south. that's what's causing the thunderstorms across that region. that's where we're looking at stormy conditions in the south. now, it's important to note that the front that is working its way through the east is going to make a big difference in temperatures. some of the numbers have sored into the upper 90s yesterday. today, a little better, 8 3 in new york. look at the temperature in chicago, 60. that's a taste of what's to

sioux falls, la crosse, minneapolis. this area has really been hardest hit. south of there, kansas city, and st. louis, are not nearly as bad. of course, we continue to keep an eye on it. as we look at the radar, you are going to see a few bands of rain today. not nearly what the folks have seen earlier in the week. but the rain does start to move through later on this morning. sioux city, you're going to see a little bit of rain. by the afternoon, the sun could come back out. and of course, that will help with the situation. how much rain? about half an inch of rain is expected for today. again, it's not expected to exacerbate the situation. but it doesn't necessarily make the situation any better. we turn our eye to the tropics. and keeping an eye on tropical storm matthew. it came ashore with about 50-mile-per-hour winds. here's some video, as tropical storm matthew hit honduras. there, you can see a lot of rain. as we track it, you can see it doesn't pose a threat to the lower 48. but it does travel across central america. by monday, it's out of there aga
