i'm raj mathai sitting in for diane dwyer. >>> we are live in castro valley where the power is back on. >> reporter: raj, this is normally what the boulevard looks like on a saturday night, a fair amount of traffic moving easily. a couple hours ago, a very different story, chaotic to say the least as drivers tried to navigate this busy stretch of road during the blackout. lights are back on in castro valley after a power outage this evening that affected more than 34,000 residents, not just here but in haywards is well. >> i was watching a movie in my room, it just started to play and then it shut off completely. it was sort of creepy, because later in the day it starred to get pitch black everywhere. >> reporter: a pg & e spokesperson says a heat-related failure caused the blackout. >> it was an eerie feeling. it was like no man's land. everybody crawling around. >> reporter: the first place to restore power was at eden hospital. the operators didn't realize there was an outage at first since the generators immediately went to work. >> the power went out but we didn't really notice an

mathai in our sports with more on that and everything throughout the sports world. right now, temperatures warmed up here, at least from these weekend numbers, 76 in sunnyvale, 75, san jose, 75, livermore, temperatures mid to upper 70s in the north bay, near our average, at les for today, but don't get too used to it we head through tuesday, the cool air is arising, looking at temperatures dropping 5 to 10 degrees on tuesday and then after we go down, we are going to be going way back up again in our 7-day forecast with potential mid-90s back in the bay area. right now if is all about these short-lived changes, we have some high cloud cover moving throughout eureka. it is part of this larger trend for the next 48 hours. all of these weak disturbances out here in the pacific will help to drug down some slightly cooler air across the bay area. temperatures tomorrow, 80s inland, dropping into the 70s, look at 50s and 60s at the coastline and also the fog coming back with potential drizzle for tuesday and also wednesday morning as well as below-average temperatures stay
