both of the johnsons, jack johnson and leslie johnson, appeared together here in u.s. district court this afternoon for a hearing that lasted about one hour. they were both dress in the their regularclothes. they were not in any sort of prison garb. they were not handcuffed. they were calm and in regular demeanor. they were conferring with their attorneys and looking for some of the court documents in front of them on the table. a prosecutor indicated court that this was a lengthy investigation. that it includes numerous wiretaps, volumes of evidence, a lot of witnesses involved in this case. there were some restrictions placed on the johnsons in order to be released from custody. we do expect them to be released at some point this afternoon after they are processed. the prosecutor was very, ve stringent. their there was some nitpicking about whether that includes mortgage payments. the prosecutor was very adamant that the johnsons report any transactions they make in excess of $1,000. considering the evidence in this case, that there we a lot of cash trans actions tha

both jack johnson and leslie johnson were ordered released and sent home to their home in mitchellville but there are some conditions. jack johnson ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device. both are allowed to work. both have been asked to surrender their passports and any travel documents. the judge ordered both of them not to destroy any further evidence. and not to tamper with witnesses. and interesting since this case involves financial transactions, they have also been ordered not to make any financial transactions more than $1000. their counsel both talked to the judge ask they alleged that their home utility bill from pepco was more than $1000. that was the only element of the orders that was waived. they can spend more apparently under pretrial services conditions. again, we are awaiting a news conference with the fbi, the u.s. attorney and the irs. we will bring that to you just as soon as it becomes available. but an astonishing affidavit, ten pages worth of allegations, most of them involving financial transactions with the outgoing prince george's county executive jac

the fbi arrested county executive jack johnson and his wife. and there could be more arrests in the coming days. brianne carter joins us from upper marlboro with the latest developments. good morning. >> after that rest of county executive jack johnson on friday, authorities said there would be additional arrests. that proved true yesterday, early monday morning where nine people were arrested included three police officers. two of the officers are accused of being involved in a tobacco and alcohol smuggling ring. another officer faces gun and drug charges. federal authorities did not explain how, but they say the cases are related to the investigation which friday led jack johnsonf john ty and his wife leslie. he would not speak about the rest, but he's continuing his work in upper marlboro. the next three weeks, he will continue to serve the residents of prince george's county, he says. we also heard from astern baker, you cannot address the issue, but he says "bennies" moving forward to put his new government in place and getting ready to se

jack johnson and his wife arrested and charged in the case. sarah simmons has more. >> reporter: federal investigators say this is just the tip of the iceberg in this case after the arrest of county executive jack johnson and his wife leslie johnson on friday. now, essentially, johnson is a prisoner in his own home. he is wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and is not allowed outside of the home other than to go to work which he says he will do today and continue to work for the people. he is also allowed to go to doctors' visits as well but other than that, he has to stay inside his home. both jack johnson and his wife who was just elected to the county council, were arrested by federal agents, charged with felony witness and evidence tampering in an ongoing federal corruption investigation. now, as for whether or not ms. johnson can serve on the county council, another county council woman weighed in on that. take a listen. >> i believe that the law says that she can legally be sworn in and it really is her choice and her decision. >>
