farouk ahmed appeared in court this morning and pamela brown is live in alexandria to tell us what happened. >> good afternoon, in federal court this morning, farouk ahmed pled not guilty to federal charges that he was plotting to conduct bombings at four northern virginia metro stations. according to this search warrant, several items retrieved from his house and ask burn, va. included fire arms and laptops and a cd-set with lectures from the spiritual leader of al-qaida in yemen. he is linked to several terrorist plots. he tops the list as one of the most wanted man in the world. farouk ahmed was plotting with two men he thought were al-qaida operas but there were two undercover agents. he was arrested back on october 28. a judge set a trial date for april 11 after farouk ahmed waived his right to trial. his lawyers say they need more time to build their case. he will remain in jail in the meantime. he pled not guilty during his arraignment this morning. >>> a d.c. high school students is dead after a double shooting in northeast d.c. two people were shot along holbrook street last night.

now to pamela brown for the latest on the accident investigation. >> good morning. the scene has been cleared on the bw parkway southbound. traffic is moving now. this unfolded at around 1:00 this morning. u.s. park police say that a man driving down bw parkway southbound between 198 and 197 got out of his car after it apparently broke down. an oncoming car struck the vehicle and driver. he was dead on arrival. we don't have anymore information on that driver. there or other cars on the scene. investigators are in the process of investigating the drivers of those cars as defined above what they witnessed and what their possible involvement was an accident. there's a tour bus that had to swerve to miss the collision. the tour bus is stuck on a muddy median on the bw parkway. there were passengers on the tour bus. that is another situation police are trying to resolve. there's only one fatality, no other injuries to reports. the investigation is underway. back to you. >> thank you. >>> i'm glad bw parkway is back open. our other top story, police are looking for a man

pamela brown is live in arlington with more on the aftermath of the powerful storms. good morning. >> less night's storm was brief but powerful. it caused a lot of damage. the bulk of it in arlington, next to virginia hospital center. this is an example of some of the damage we found. this is a massive tree that fell on the power lines. this leader of the next few hours. it will take some time to clear disks. george mason drive between 15th street and washington boulevard will be closed during the morning rush hour or. a lot of cars are having to turn around because the collins -- cones are blocking traffic. a telephone pole snapped. this is just an example. there are a lot of downed trees and downed power lines threw out to the area, especially in arlington. this neighborhood next to virginia hospital center was especially hard-hit. we have seen tricot crews as well as power crews -- tree crews. 10,500 houses are in the dark in northern virginia. back to you. >>> the storm also caused serious damage in northeast washington. this was the scene behind chris this store

pamela brown is live at the federal court house. >> good morning, farouk ahmed is expected to enter a 'not guilty' plea and alexandria. he was arrested on october 28 after being the target of a federal sting operation. authorities alleged that he thought he was plotting with two out that operatives to conduct bombings of four metro stations in northern virginia which included court house, arlington national cemetery, pentagon city, and crystal city. he's got it sites suggested using a rolling suitcase to carry out the bombing. it turns out that the two people he was plotting with were two undercover law-enforcement agents. farouk ahmed was born in pakistan and came to the u.s. back in 1993 and has been living in loudoun county for the past two years with his wife and young son. he has been held in jail pending trial of the arraignment today which starts at 10:45 for a federal judge is expected to set a trial date. back to you. >>> when did metro know about potential escalator safety issues? a new report shows the agency knew about issues one month before an accident that sent four peo
