this week, dallas will be teeming with tourists for sunday's super bowl. yesterday, a coating of ice shut down the airport and left interstates deserted. as the storm moves on, the next major concern is power outages. air travel will be at a standstill today. the storm has already forced more than 10,000 flight cancellations. and travelers should be prepared for more of the same. karen travers, abc news. >>> and chicago is at a virtual standstill today. and the storm is still on the move. >> accuweather's ava dinges is joining us now with more on the forecast. good morning, ava. >> good morning, rob and vinita. travel will be an absolute mess across the northeast, as we head to the morning commute. first off, we see the blick to detroit, whe back to detroit, where some areas will see 12 to 24 inches of snow, just throughout the duration of this. and with the winds, that's what's creating low visibility from chicago. the icing from indianapolis to new york, will create pretty treacherous roadways. and the power outages, a concern with the accumulating ice.

the dallas-fort worth international airport is now closed due to an ice storm. we've been talking about severe weather hitting all the way from texas into the midwest and the east coast. right now we understand in the dallas area that schools have been shut down, ground traffic is a mess. it's left much of north texas in that winter freeze. we've heard from the dallas- fort worth airport spokesperson that the runways are glazed with ice. the crews are working to clear that area. they expect to reopen within a couple of hours, but, again, the dallas-fort worth airport closed right now because of an ice storm. and we've been talking about the severe winter storm that is heading in again from texas all the way through the midwest into the east coast. we'll have a live report on that just a little bit. >>> back here in the bay area today the oakland city council will take a second look at its controversial pot farm policy. that's after it attracted some unwanted attention from the u.s. justice department. last year the council approved licensing large scale marijuan
