allie rasmus is joining us live. >> reporter: good morning, dave. that center piece you are talk about is the tower for the new eastern span of the bay bridge and this tower that you are looking at is going to get taller this week. 100 feet taller than it already is. crews will start work to add a fourth segment to the top of the tower. that will make it 480 feet tall. we will show you an illustration from the project website. three of the five segments are already in place. after the fourth segment is up they will have one more smaller section to go and then it will be finished. than the process of stringing cables from the new tower will start. about an hour ago we watched a barge pass underneath the bay bridge. the barge look like it was carrying some kind of column like piece of equipment. it's clear crews are preparing to start thyrse work this morning. to give you idea of what it will look like, it will be similar to this video. news chopper 2 was over head in december. that section of concrete was 101 feet long and weighed more than 550 tons.
