lake tahoe, they set a record yesterday of minus 15. that's south lake tahoe. yeah, this morning, yeah, they're not doing that much better because it's only 1 in truckee. the airport 1. this is mount tam, gorgeous start, clear sky and no records yet in the north bay. we have temperatures at or below freezing but we would need to see them in the mid-20s to have records. and with that sun coming up in another 30 minutes or so, the temperatures begin to recover but still our freeze warning in effect until 8:00 where temperatures will hover at or below freezing, a lot like yesterday. we already have seen a few records shattered in the south bay. but here are the records to beat this morning. we would have to get at least about 2 degrees colder in the north bay to see those upper 20s. and around oakland, we have tied a record. sfo would have to get about 5 degrees colder. sitting at 41 in san francisco. freezing in redwood city with numbers below freezing in los gatos and freezing at the coast. half moon bay, 32. 29 in livermore as well as napa but still no record.

that sunset--last night through lake tahoe. these temperature readings will get into the 70's in a lot of places. san jose, 74 degrees. santa rosa, and low mid-70s perhaps a few degrees warmer even tomorrow. and even as warm as 77 degrees. just wonderful conditions for this weekend. not only sunny skies but warming temperatures. 10:00 a.m., the futurecast is showing that tends are in the 60s. mild. by 3:00 p.m., 60s and even showing 70's. the other thing to watch for is the wind. 10:00 a.m., not too bad but it will get breezy tourist fairfield. gusting up to 20 m.p.h.. those bay area when will increase. the strongest could be for the bay iraq at the delta and the streets. the around--the bay. and even breezy with 10 m.p.h.-20 and gusting up to 30 m.p.h. high temperatures again with the 70's the average is only 54 this time of year. seoul will see 70 degrees for santa rosa and low 70's so, your seven day your 7 day around the bay forecast looks great. and a few degrees warmer and sunshine this weather pattern will not change too

tahoe did have light snow several hours ago. it's not snowing now. they will be seeing snow and counting it in feet towards next 24-48 hours. there is a lovely view. ski lifts will be moving soon, here there is a live picture now. you can see rain drops on the lens. we do still have light rain and drizzle falling across parts of the bay area. here is a live doppler 7 hd. you can see spotty showers showing up around vacaville and there is some light returns just east of gilroy. in the sierra nevada we did have light snow showers but now, it's switch owed-to-rain at blue canyon. no travel delays being reported but if you're planning to go to tahoe keep in mind things are going to change starting tomorrow afternoon continuing through wednesday afternoon. temperatures into 50s and 60s, here are the highlights. scattered showers overnight. rain heavy at times tomorrow z there is satellite and radar, cold front brought rain. and the storm we're now watching is this cold front. we have cold unstable air coming out of the gulf of alaska. this is indicated by

. >> we were supposed to go up to tahoe this week. and actually the storm was a little bit too much to get up there. didn't want to drive in that mess. it was nice having this nearby. >> we wasn't expecting to be like this. like little snow but it's like tahoe in bay area. >> also means bay area drivers who aren't used to the snow are hitting the mountains. this man's car got stuck in the snow. >> people came and offered to push. including the very helpful sheriff who pointed out that i shouldn't be parking there. >> caltran's truck started plowing the roads overnight when the fresh snow started falling, it's barely let up since. >> the heavy snowfall has forced road crews to shut down two parts of the mountain area including empire grade near fountain and that portion of highway 9 at fair creek road. but the dangerous driving conditions weren't just in the mountains. this driver hydroplaned after high 17 down the side of the road and eventually flipped over into a creek. emergency crews had to rappel down the embankment to save them.

no major problems here in the bay area but tahoe 80 has been closed eastbound to trucks. they did reopen it to cars a short while ago but so far you also need chains highway 50 and interstate 80 heading up to tahoe. amy hollyfield has been live at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning and she has been watching cars speeding through, heading towards the tolls and has great advice for us. >> hi, frances. we've got a body of water you mentioned, some ponding but it is receding a bit. cars are hitting it at full speed because there's not a lot of traffic out here this morning. take a look at these pictures of cars looking like they're getting hit off guard. looks like a big surprise to them. we're seeing big splashes but no problems. caltran dn't have a crew they could send over here. they're all busy in the south bay and the north bay. crews are asking people be patient with them this morning since they can't be everywhere. the chp said it's up to drivers to be aware and be careful. there's a high wind advisory here at the bay bridge. not a lot of rain, not a lot of traffic

lake tahoe getting another foot of snow overnight. they're chaining up and i would not be driving up there the next 24 to 36 hours if i didn't have chains in my possession or four wheel drive or check the road conditions. president's day weekend and the weather, the next couple of days not that great. so here we go, friday at 12:00 a.m. tomorrow or midnight, you see showers in the area. i'm looking for tomorrow morning's commute. looks pretty dry doesn't it. this is what's weird, look what happened. here we are 6:00 a.m., looks good on friday. few sprinkles in san jose. watch the moisture start to come back around. this isn't the way they usually roll. you believely everything goes out and this way. the lows drop down, the flow around the low is going to give us some back wash. some of this moisture is going to wrap around out to fresno. maybe some sprinkles in livermore. you see it pulling back into the area. none of this will be a big deal, just sprinkles and showers. light showers in your bay area forecast. some meteorologists are

. >> we were supposed to go up to tahoe this week and actually the storm was a little bit too much to get up there. and didn't want to drive in that mess so it's nice having this nearby. >> we wasn't expecting it to be like this. we expected a little snow, but tahoe is buried. >> bay area drivers who aren't used to the snow are hitting the mountains and this man's car got stuck in the snow. >> we dug and people came and offered to push, including the helpful sheriff who pointed out i shouldn't be parking there. >> cal-tran's truck started plowing the trucks overnight when a fresh snow started falling and it barely let up since. the heavy snowfall forced road crews to shut down two parts of the mountain area, including empire grade near falcon and that portion of highway 9 at bear creek road. but the dangerous driving conditions weren't just in the mountains. this driver hydroplaned off highway 17, down the side of the road and eventually flipped over into the creek. emergency crews had to rappel down the embankment to save him. >> the victim was trapped inside there with a seat belt,

this was the scene heading into lake tahoe today. you can see the roads snowy. chain requirements in effect. christine connolly gives us a look at what the roads will look like this weekend. >> in blue canyon, you can see all of the snow that has been coming down. it has been dumping in this area throughout day into the night and that is cause for roads very sloshy and chain requirements. extremely slow driving if you are going to go to tahoe. let's show you, this is i-80 west. you can see traffic moving quickly. but it is a different story on i-80 east where cars are just sitting at a standstill. chains are required if you are going in this area. the chp says they had to deal with a lot of spinouts because people are just not going slow enough in the area or not putting their chains on when they are supposed to. you need to make sure you have a full tank of gas, because the trip is taking sometimes triple or quadruple the amount of time it would usually take. kron4 news. >>> weather was not the culprit in a major bart delay this evening. qron4's jonathan bloom

. >> the snow, we'll definitely hit tahoe with snow. looks like they are in between them. first big dumping in tahoe will be tomorrow and wednesday where we'll get heavier rain than what we're dealing right now. back here at home, up on mount tamalpais where winds have been gusting up to 50 miles an hour. the winds are much stronger and we have flight arrival delays into sfo and the rain that is falling. live doppler 7 hd, quick overview, not much has changed other than the top of the show, heavier showers around the bay. we're seeing strong winds with those showers, gusts to 30 miles an hour in oakland and concord, everybody else faster than 20 until you get to novato and napa and you are about 12-15. it's those winds that brought the moisture and mild temperatures. most of us in the low to mid-50s. we do have a few upper 50s, con can cord, livermore and mountain view. monterey bay, low to mid-50s to 54 in monterey. scattered rain is first highlight and breezy today. all these highlights are going to sound a lot different than the last month or so. rain late tomorrow and

people trying to get up to tahoe last night driving all night. you see it's clear right now but it is treacherous. chains are required on interstate 80 from baxter to the novato state line and highway 50 from twin bridges to meyers. working around the clock trying to keep the roads clear. closer to home in marin county, there was steady snowfall around mount tam. started coming down at pay steady pace around 5:00. at the intersections of highways 9 and 35, a lot of parents brought their kids to play in the icy mix. they had snow fights and made small snowmen. over at the state park, caltran had to plow so the park could stay open. >> i wanna do a snow fight and make snowmans. >> we were coming because he told me there was snow and i was like, okay, let's go! >> we were coming up here and there's a lot of rain. i didn't know if there was gonna be snow and kind of a pleasant surprise. >> caltran's trucks and teams are standing by around the bay area just in case there's more snow. they're also working to keep the rainwater off the roads. while othe
