let's turn things over to jeff ranieri in the weather center. a change. kind of dreary today. >> it's monday, and then this. right? you know, it's hard enough on mondays to get going, and this cloud cover today probably made it a little bit extra tough for you. also muggy and somewhat humid outside. humidity at 75% right now, current temperature 59 in san francisco in the low clouds starting to roll in there. meanwhile, our warmest spots in the south bay with almaden at 72, 70 in gilroy, 65 in livermore and upper 50s and mid to upper 60s for parts of the north bay. santa rosa topping out at 68. so right now we have seen numbers starting to come down with 58 in san francisco, 65 in san jose, and 61 in livermore. we're also watching these aftershocks for you. three of them here since the 3.7 that occurred at 2:57 this afternoon. we'll continue to watch that for you tonight. power has also been restored to that area as this earthquake did occur on the san andreas fault earlier this afternoon. now, we did have some spotty showers today throughout the peninsul

i'm chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. hopefully you enjoyed the record heat today. it was 78 in san jose. it won't be lasting too much longer. mid 50s across the board. as we head throughout tomorrow morning, mainly cl >>> now to japan where the government asked russia for a ship that is used to dispose of liquid nuclear waste. until it arrives though, workers at the fukushima nuclear power plant to have pump more than 3 million gallons of contaminated water into the pacific ocean. the water is at least 500 time the legal limit for radiation. plant managers say they must release it to free storage space for even more highly radioactive water that is circulating to cool reactors. experts say radioactivity is quickly diluted in the ocean. >>> toyota in north america is feeling the impact saying it will be forced to temporarily shut down all of its factories because of parts shortages. that will likely happen later this month, affecting some 25,000 worker nationwide. north american plants have been using parts shpd before the disaster but supplies are running low. deal

jeff ranieri taking his show on the road. >> he's at the children's metro science museum in fremont. you have some bones with you. >> yes, yes, we have the bones. paleontologists to meteorologists, not too far to go. it is amazing when you think about it right here in the east bay, hundreds of thousands of years ago so many fossils just frozen in time and in fact, there was a huge discovery here decades ago that was actually one of the best preserved fossil sites in north america. and we are really excited tonight to be joined by phil gordon, one of the young paleontologists. you're only 7 years old when you came upon this with some other friends. take us back quickly to that time. >> we were just a bunch of boys that needed a place to go. our parents were many times were in the war. and my father was a recreation man, he said i have an activity. i'm a rock hound and mineral hunter and took us to the creeks of hayward. and we started finding rocks, minerals, arrowheads. >> wow. >> and fossils. >> yeah. and show us some of the fossils you found here in the bay area in fremont. >> let

jeff ranieri is standing by with a real-life paleontologist. >> he's taken the show on the road. do you have weather here, as well? >> we're talking bones. >> we have some weather but, yeah, we're talking bones here tonight. it's so fascinating here in the bay area. we have so many things to uncover and unearth. it really is fascinating. and in the east bay area is actually home to some of the best preserved fossils, not in california, but in all of north america and where it gets really interesting is phil gordon, our paleontologist joining us today, you actually helped to discover some of the best-preserved fossils way back in the 1940s. what was the most memorable moment for you when you stumbled upon some of these? >> i was 7 years old when my father, wes gordon, had a bunch of boys going out to dig fossils and one of the first things we found which i remember, was the whole skull with the teeth, of a camel that romed in great lerds around fremont where we're now seeing fossils exhibited. >> unbelievable. you can see some of this at the children's natural history museum in fr

. >>> let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. i know you've been tracking dramatic changes for the weekend weather for us. >> yeah, certainly the bearer of bad news here as we head into the weekend, we've had all this great weather the past couple days really just a teaser. look at this. low to mid-80s for most of the bay area. our hottest temperature today, los gatos with 91. that actually was the warmest temperature throughout our entire mini heat spot. high hot pressure produced warm weather and breezy conditions at time but that's already weakening. we're starting to see the winds shift which will allow this cooling flow to move in for saturday and sunday. hopefully get to sleep in and enjoy l to mid-50s if you walk out to get the paper. then as we head into the noon t hour, things will only be in the 60s. so this time today we had temperatures in the 70s at th noon hour. so tomorrow only the 60s once again. we're also tracking a few showers offshore. we'll let you know what the chance of any of this making it into the bay ar

i'm chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. we did see 68 in san jose. big change coming our way. >>> we're going to have the latest on the breaking news we're following out of san francisco. a fire at a residential hotel. >>> updating the breaking news, we told you a residential hotel fire in the tenderloin district of san francisco at the franciscan towers. it has been contained about 40 minutes ago. are there any injuries to pass along? >> reporter: the fire is out but this is a very active scene. there are lots of firefighters out here evaluating. on the sidewalk, just seen another patient transported to the hospital. i talk to the fire chief and he said six people have been transported to the hospital and at least 25 have been evaluated. it started in the basement trash compactor and spread up through chute. six stories and the flames came out the roof. i did speak with residents inside who said it was scary but they believe everybody got out safely. the firefighters are still here. the fire is out. they're evaluating patients but at this point they
