mike? >> reporter: good evening, kate. the early call on this tornado was an ef-4, first one of the season. that's the enhanced fujita scale that runs from 1 to 5, a strong tornado, could have had winds as strong as 200 miles an hour. it has been a very busy april. we have not seen this many tornadoes ever in april. 345 and counting. the tornado tore through lambert airport friday evening, sending passengers in the airport terminal scrambling for cover. fierce winds ripped off the roof on concourse c, blew out windows and crushed this jet way. some passengers on an airplane had to ride out the storm parked at the gate. >> we were completely pelted with all kinds of wood and debris and at this point i realized that i was concerned that we would have debris coming through the window in the airplane. and so i ducked for cover. >> reporter: the grounded plane became airborne. >> you could feel the airplane moving under you. we could see that we had been lifted. we were parked at the gate. we had been lifted from the gate. and

mike seidel tonight, thank you. and as we said, we are tracking another powerful set of storms that could, believe it or not, be even stronger and affect nearly half the country. let's get the latest from the weather channel's samantha mohr tonight. samantha, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, kate. the problem is it is going to be some of the same areas that have been targeted so far will be targeted again. and look at the difference in the air temperature north and then south of this front. it's very warm, moist and unstable on the southern side of this. and very cool, in the 50s, on the northern side of this stationary front. the stage is set as a very active jet stream aloft brings in a series of disturbances this week. that's going to cause a lot of problems here for dallas. and to st. louis again, little rock, indianapolis likely to see severe storms that could spawn tornados into monday. tuesday the same area plus some into the ohio valley as that low moves into the great lakes. then it pushes further e

how does it look, mike? >> one of those areas you showed, in livermore, in antioch you showed a couple of blips there so you might get red weather roads. the antioch bridge does have overnight construction so one-way traffic control for the next half hour or so. and eastbound 580 at summersville opposite your main commute and right now it's before the commute kicked in for the westbound side. by 6:00 the westbound side will show slowdowns right in that same spot. we do have a wind advisory for the benicia bridge across the water between the north bay and east bay. a smooth flow of traffic but watch out for those gusty conditions. a view of the east shore freeway and very light volume, but if there's gusty winds at the benicia bridge, likely to see some patches in the east bay hills as well. >>> coming up, the newly revamped terror threat system and the new way the government will be alerting the public. >>> plus, new passenger protection rules this morning. what you should know before you take off. >>> and m
