my main job has been doing social work for san francisco state university. i have been a community organizer, a social worker, but i have also been a legislative aide. i worked mostly for community- based organization supporting kids and families, working for labor. i got to see how city hall could be an effective tool to create change. i looked at running in 2007, 2008, and somehow i made it. i have been in politics for so many ways, doing work around central america, supporting people in central america against u.s. imperialism, their right to live, self determination. i did a lot of work on that on campus when i was in college. a bit of work on apartheid when i was in college as well. >> i never got involved in supporting a candidate. i never thought a candidate was someone that i would support. then when tom ammiano ran against willie brown, i got inspired. i thought, someone with integrity and honesty, if they can run for mayor, maybe i can be somebody who represents what is true about our people. that is what inspired me to run and be a candidate. one

our group was actually started many years ago by professor john irwin, who was at a san francisco state university for 30 years. john recently passed away. john, even after he retired in 1995, for nearly 15 years helps me to organize the convicts criminology group. there is now 30 of us. we are all ex cons, ph.d., and professors at different universities. because i'm a convicted felon, i should say i went to federal prison for nine years. >> [inaudible] i came to a public forum, which included a lot of attorneys, to try to rectify these matters. >> [inaudible] >> i am here. i will be outside for five minutes with this information. i am one of those that got bought out by san francisco state university. i report that rent control continues. we have the same sort of garden apartment. an example of myself. also, i look forward to the improvement of the safety of the students that are getting out of the university and going half way across 19th, one of the most dangerous corners in the city, to have the muni m come across on the park merced side to board and get off would be a big improvement. there have been a lot of things said. all those that said in favor of it, i want to endorse. thank you. supervisor mar: thank you. it looks like mr. elmer burke will be the last speaker. >> i just want to reiterate the point, as one of the other speakers mentioned, this is a return to the repudiated redevelopment policies of the past where demolition of existing neighborhoods take place. we are still looking to find homes for the people that were moved years ago. we are not doing a good job of that. the other point i want to make is the size of this demolition is the equivalent of demolishing 12 h
