kit doe joins us from union city where there is a memorial to victims from that flight. good morning. >> reporter: good morning candles have been lit and flowers laid here overnight at this memorial along with the 40 stone markers that represent the people on the plane, united flight 93 on that fateful day. it was headed from sfo headed to sfo but high jacked and started heading to washington dc presumably toward the capital building or white house but the men and women stopped the high jackers from doing that and crashed the plane in the woods in pennsylvania. yesterday we spoke with the husband of lauren who was on the plane and 3 months pregnant at the time we asked if he felt justice had been done. >> to some degree. obviously, they took care of the man who ultimately decided that innocent people should die, i know a lot of people says the symbolic because he was mitigated to what he could do, in the last 10 years, but i know it is also a symbol of hope, that you know, this hate red that caused all this, will diminish. >> reporter: lauren was able to leave a message

it happened on whipple road in union city's d he decota neighborhood. witnesses heard gunshots last night around 10:10:15. what we saw -- 10:00, 10:15. police say the victim was on his way home when someone approached a fire weapon and ran from the scene. it's possible according to police that the victim was on hit bike going to or riding home from a convenience store. the lieutenant i spoke to didn't say why he knew that or why he thought police believed that. maybe wear -- maybe there was evidence at the scene. we're gonna go to the 711. there are no motives about why this happened but there's one possibility. >> there's no hard indication that it's gang-related. how far, a number our homicides sort of traditionally in union city have been gauge-related. we're certainly not ruling that out at this time. it's just too early to tell. >> police say it's also too early to tell if this had is connected to the shooting death last week. and knowny ramirez's is also a member of the neighborhood on decota. the victim's not has not been released pending family

i was here before the memorial opened in union city. i got the chills then and you can't help but get the chills now. it's so powerful. it honors a 20-year-old from japan. as you mentioned, mark bingeham, the 31-year-olds from san francisco. he remember his heroic efforts on the plane and the other passengers on board the 757 on 9/11. somewhere above ohio, the hijackers took over. several passengers made a pact to charge the hijackers. the plane went down in pennsylvania before they could reach their target. on the plane were many passengers from the bay area including mark bingham. his mother has been on this program several times over the last ten years. she was back last night speaking about the killing of osama bin laden. >> i am so pleased with the defeat of terrorism and the defeat of this particular terrorist who symbolizes such ugliness, terror. the united states has a reason to be glad. it is a righteous nation. we are a righteous people and try hard to do the right thing. >> reporter: she said it's too bad there has to be so m

union city police are investigating a fatal shooting this morning. it happened last night about 10:00, but investigators are still on scene this morning. now, police responded to the shooting in the dakoto neighborhood near whipple road just after 10:00. a 48-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds and then he was taken to a local hospital where he later died. so far investigators have not released any other information about the man or any suspects. this is union city's second homicide of the year. >>> closing arguments are scheduled to start later this morning in the trial of slain oakland post editor chauncey bailey. yesterday one of the defendants unexpectedly took the witness stand in his own defense. he told jurors he was not involved in the fatal shootings of bailey and two other men back in 2007. lawyers for mackey and defendant yousef bey iv had previously said their clients would not take the stand but they say mackey was a key participant in the murders. >>> later this morning, doctors in san francisco are expected to give us a
