gary tuchman, cnn, florida. >> earlier i spoke with jean casarez and michael hunter. dr. hunter, a dog handler testified his dog was able to sniff out human decomposition in the trunk of the car but the defense said that the testimony coming from basically a dog is unreliable. how accurate are these dogs pin pointing places with human decay? >> i think the defense doesn't have a leg to stand on here. dogs are extremely sensitive to odors. >> i've spent a lot of time with cadaver dogs and they don't alert on things like trash. i think the defense was hoping they could one of the handlers to say, and they are very specific as you say. >> they are very specific. you could have these dogs in say a dump looking for remains and they can be successful in that setting. keep in mind that just like myself, i'm a certified forensic pathologists. these dogs are also certified. they have to show that they have the ability to be both sensitive and pacific for odors of decomposition. >> jean, you think the testimony was a strong point of the prosecution today? >> you want to hear someth

he told gary tuchman they will do all they can to keep their dautder from getting death penalty even though they do not believe she is innocent. here is how gary describes his conversation with the anthony family lawyer. >> reporter: today i talked to their family attorney, mark lipman. mark hasn't wanted to talk about that but i explained to him we don't want to sensationalize this. george could be in a lot of trouble if the jury ultimately believes what the defense is saying, that the child accidentally drowned and george had something to do with the disposing of the child's body. mark lipman told me this. i asked him a specific question. i said, do your clients, george and cindy anthony, think that she is not guilty. his answer was they do not think that. he said they want to see justice done and see the truth come out. then he added to me, he said, they do not believe she's innocent. that being said, okay, this is very important, he wanted me to stress this, they love her and support her and do not want her to get the death penalty. they will do all they can to avoid her getting

gary tuchman. >> reporter: prosecutors have finished their case against casey anthony. >> your honor, at this point the state of florida would rest. >> reporter: when that happened defense attorneys began the process of throwing a legal hail mary. they asked the judge to acquit casey anthony, even before they called their witnesses, saying prosecutors didn't come close to proving their case. >> there is no evidence whatsoever, none, that the causation of this child's death. >> reporter: but over 19 court days, prosecutors say there is plenty of evidence, some of it coming from the local medical examiner who had these questions. why did casey anthony not report her daughter missing promptly? and why was the little girl's body thrown away? >> the fact that it's tossed in a field to rot in bags is a clear indication that body was trying to be hidden. those are -- even it being put in a bag is a very big red flag for homicide and never seen in an accidental death of a child. and the fact that there's duct tape anywhere attached to that child's face is to me indication of a homicide. >> re
