we want to go to fairfield where they are having a conference after a giant fire. the company makes plastic containers and tons of them burned in this huge inferno and luckily the firefighters, a crew crew of firefighters that kept this thing contained to just containers because otherwise it would spread to the building so none of the employees was hurt. they think it happened from one of the employees lighting with a torch or something and caught a plastic container on fire, either a torch or lighter they were using and jackie is waiting for the press conference and as we look at the damage do you think they will talk about the cause or actually jackie is setting up as we are waiting. you can see this entire fence melted from that huge, just a fire ball. we were above from a chopper and you could feel the flames and see them for miles and they had dozens of firefighters out there. so as we look at the twisted metal from the fire. we are hoping they will talk about the investigation and what does it mean, work as usual or what they will be doing from the cleanup, w

a plastics plant in fairfield continues to smolder at this hour. erday it was a tower >>> good afternoon, i'm grace lee. >> i'm frank mallicoat. a plastic plant in fairfield is smolders. yesterday it was a towering inferno of flames and smoke. now of discriminates burned. firefighters fought the six- alarm fire. three of the firefighters were treated for minor injuries. this happened at macro plastics in a light industrial area northwest at travis air force base east of i-80. anne makovec reports it may be weeks before we know if the air, soil or ground water was contaminated. >> reporter: it looks like a two-story building on fire but really it's thousands of plastic crates stacked almost two stories high that turned into a 5-acre inferno at macro plastics. it appears to have started as an employee was doing maintenance work with an open flame and it quickly took off. >> it was actually creating its own wind and the heat that was occurring inside was sucking plastic bins into the fire. >> reporter: it broke out at around 1:00 yesterday afternoon.
