so, how did serrano get from atlanta to erie manufacturing in florida and back to atlanta in time to be photographed by the hotel security camera again at 10:00 or so? he had to fly, obviously. but only two airports in central florida made sense for the very tight timeline of the crime to work. he either flew into orlando or into tampa. all theory. meanwhile, the murder investigation at erie manufacturing was getting colder and colder. this case then hit a brick wall, huh? >> as far as a brick wall, we were still doing background on any and everybody connected to nelson serrano. >> reporter: one of those people connected to serrano was a nephew in florida named alvaro penaherrera. the detective could not figure out why serrano had called his nephew so frequently around the time of the murders. >> the day of the homicide, nelson had called alvaro around 7:53 a.m. there was a series of phone calls that connected alvaro to nelson. >> reporter: then detective ray's team came up with a bingo moment, the discovery of a credit card transaction for serrano's nephew on a most interesting day

back in atlanta, school officials are repairing the damage. superintendent beverly hall, who has denied any role in cheating, resigned in june. her replacement harold davis promises swift action. >> we will find those students who were cheating. we will do assessments. we will look at students who are not where they're supposed to be and we will provide avenues of remediation. >> reporter: he says they'll go after those who cheated too. >> i do not believe that anyone who is implicated should appear in front of our children. >> reporter: some teachers will lose their licenses. others may face criminal charges. former superintendent hall, who received some 600,000 dollars in bonuses, has been asked to return a portion of that tied to fraudulent test scores. as for schools, from now on, any unusual gains will trigger automatic investigations. but what about the high expectations and tough consequences for failing to meet them that are said to have led to the cheating in the first place? >> i'm certainly going to review the targets and target- se

>>> atlanta public school students are seeing plenty of new faces as they start the new year. a state investigation implicated nearly 200 teachers and principals in a massive cheating scandal. and those educators have been replaced in the classroom with interim staff. cnn's julie peterson visited one school severely impacted by this scandal. >> did you have breakfast? >> reporter: this principal has his work cut out for him in his new job at atlanta's dobbs elementary school, hired just ten days before the start of classes. >> you're going to make me cry in a moment. hold on to that. let's tie your shoes. >> reporter: most of his responsibilities are obvious. >> i know we have one child with severe chronic asthma. >> reporter: like motivating. ♪ but there will be even greater challenges for subtlemire who was brought in as interim replacement for a principal implicated in the test cheating scandal, not by the students by the teachers and administrators. they were accused of changing answers to improve scores on standardized tests or failing to stop the cheating from occurrin

a friend in atlanta and let him know about tuskegee airfield. the military base under construction at day's driveway in tuskegee, alabama. they instituted training civilian pilots, a primary flight training base that operated under contract for the army air corps. now the war department was building from scratch on the outskirts of town. the idea of building an air base in treat him. he found a job at taft and are carpenter's apprentice and as soon as he got to tuskegee he learned about training black instructor pilots. he used the skills he learned in civilian pilot training to pass the entrance exam and began a training course. when the program was unexpectedly interrupted he found work driving the station wagon that ferried aviation cadets back and forth from their living quarters at tuskegee institute and was later hired as a timekeeper in the control tower tabulating cadets flight time. on march 1943 in order to save enough money to return to lincoln he quit his job and went back to atlanta to drive a cab. by september he had enough money t
