barack obama is a type. he has been trained by his parents and his grandparents, as i was trained by my parents and grandparents, not to get to agree with white folks. right? that has the opposite effect of what we want to do. we want to be participants in american life. if i were angry and bitter and walked around frowning all day, i would not have many friends in life, or business partners. we are trained in a largely professional white world to behave a certain way. i learned that from my mother. he learned that from his mother and his grandparents. we can get angry. my wife can attest to that. but in our public persona, we are trained. our behavior is to be upright but not uptight. the real, not phony. but also listen and try to convey we are not going to jump you. i say let's hug them, not mug them.
