we have the poorest residents in san francisco. we have lgbt. we have immigrants, people of color, youth, and a high proportion of seniors in the city as well. we heard that people want to see more jobs, want to see access to more jobs for our residents. we want to see more preventive instead of just reactive. we want to see after-school programs versus the police picking them up because they are out on the street, which i think our chief agrees with. i actually ran for the board of education in san francisco and got to serve a term on our school board. what really surprised me was how much i enjoyed it. i loved it. i love meeting with families, meeting with youth, meeting with teachers, visiting schools, and getting a deeper understanding of what it means to make our system work better. the one thing i really enjoyed was i got to run within a district instead of citywide, was that i really got to know voters and residents. i actually enjoy campaigning more because i had time to knock on doors and the voters individually. i'd love it. i actually

many other locations in san francisco de. after finishing swimming at stanford, years ago, i found this very receptive place. there is no other location in the entire san francisco bay area that is protected as aquatic park is for swimming. i have personally participated in the rescue of a swimmer who was done in by a tugboat. it was not a pleasant experience. i would like to see the eir address the recreational use of aquatic park, which does not address. i even have the knowledge of the 1900's of city beautiful development of the area, which designated the aquatic park area for recreational use. even though i decided to support the idea of the america's cup, i am very skeptical of their commandeering for the nine weeks of the summer season, which is the only time the water gets up over 60 degrees for swimming. at least that should be addressed and limitations to the use of power boats and other craft in that area, which is so unique to swimming -- i have tried swimming in practically every venue you can imagine, up and down

what an exciting day for san francisco. when we can all come together to be reminded of our traditions and the courage of our first responders. i'm so excited to be here with the fire chief. he's been remembering how the fire department helped us out of the earthquake some few years before coit tower was built and also of course with our fire chief remembering the important role that the first responders play. telegraph hill has always been a place that our citizens gather in san francisco, the beautiful vantage points over which christopher column buss looks out. as an italian american i take special pride in the fact that columbus is here. and over the years i took my children and more recently visitors and members of the congress to telegraph hill to see this incredible monument to love of san francisco. to see the murals inside which are a tribute to the working man. some find that controversial. i don't and i think it's time to remind ourselves of that at this time and to remember that those were projects of the w.p.a.

i am president of san francisco tomorrow. i am one of the members of the environmental council that submitted 30 pages of comment on the notice of preparation. when we talk about submitting hundreds of pages for the administrative draft we did it in edit format but i guess it was not easy enough. the actual distance of impact. they are looking at impacts close to the shore line but they are not looking at the impacts farther back. san francisco bay as a natural ampitheater for america's cup they are covering the orchestra but not the balconies. things that happen on the shoreline is affecting the city. i live about as far away from the waterfront as you can get and four of the five bus lines serving my neighborhood serve the waterfront. if we do not take care of the transportation problem it is going to have a ripple effect. the other issue is, and it is a short timeline for this document. i understand that we are trying a new way of doing things. a lot of the mitigation is contained in other documents. difficulty is after mo

[applause] >> you are talking to one of the happiest people in san francisco. this was an extraordinary an historic vote. but it was symbolic. remember, the new board of supervisors who convenes tomorrow will make the actual decision on who the next mayor will be. >> everybody came down to ed lee with the expectation that it will be done in the most intellectually honest way and in a way that role and order is respected. i think we discussed a few nominations and came down to this one by a common denominator. >> i had a sense of urgency because i did not want to see anyone being acting mayor in the presence of the board of supervisors. that is not the kind of transition i talked about. we need to have a transition -- legislative branch separate from the executive branch of san francisco. that is the best way to do our work. people would not like the situation of having an acting mayor and president of the board of supervisors. >> now the dominoes in this chain of political events were falling day-by-day. the next day, january 8, new board members were sworn in.
