sanjay gupta joins me now. sanjay, the international aid groups are working hard to try to stem disease outbreaks at the camp through vaccine programs and early warning systems. are they having an impact? >> you know, it's very hard to paint with one broad brush the entire impact. there are certain enclaves where there's more impact than others. the area that you just saw there in that piece, anderson, there was several kids who likely had measles at one time or another. they had the rash. it had gone away but they had fever and weren't feeling well but hadn't seen a doctor because they were too ill to go the health center and there weren't doctors going around seeing the patients so it's a logistical problem. with regard to vaccinations, it's more complicated than you might imagine. children under the age of 5 are getting vaccines even at the time they check in or registration but children over 5 for various reasons, the aid organizations have told us this aren't always getting their vaccines. a lot of kids yo

sanjay gupta is here to tell us what he noticed most when he saw the congresswoman. sanjay? >> randi, as you look at that video, one thing to keep in mind from a medical standpoint is that three quarters of those who had the injury she had, don't survive. to see her walking on the floor puts that into a little bit more of a context. there are certain things i'm looking for specifically including fact that her right arm is not moving. if you look at what she's mouthing to people around her, it's short sentences, thank you, i love you. she obviously has very good attentiveness there. recognizes her name and acknowledges lots of people. it's quite remarkable and as the rehab doctors put it, she's in the top 1 percentile for people who recover after an injury like this. the rehab she was going through was pretty extensive in terms of trying to strengthen that right side of the body, in terms of trying to teach her to communication, to express not only through the spoken word but through the written word, the gestures. this is all part of speech. her come pre hegs has never been

sanjay gupta. sanjay? >> reporter: brooke, these children are so resilient as well. the question remains, how do you take care of so many people, hundreds of thousands of people in the largest refugee camp in the world. it is not easy, especially with war, especially with the drought, especially with the staggering poverty that we talk about. we give you an idea through the story of a father's love for his boys. what you're looking at may best be described as the most desperate place on earth. vulnerable children, thick with misery. the other thing you can tell right away, when you see a little baby over here. if you take a look here. the baby's fontanelle, it's so sunken in, this is what happens when babies have no food or water. so dehydrated. basic, basic necessities. so hard to come by. dust and starvation nearly everywhere you look. this is also what happens when you're at the world's largest refugee camp. all these folks waiting to see one doctor here. as you look at these images, consider this simple fact. these are the lucky ones. lucky because they made it h
