allie rasmus is there with more on what crews are doing today, allie? >> reporter: well the process is supposed to get going later this morning and you can see a huge demolition truck parked on tell graph avenue and it has been closed to traffic because of a fire that happened in this apartment building right next to it. 68 people were displaced after the fire but nobody was hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. the owner told me this building was built back in 1916. the building is so bad that it is structurally unsafe and nobody can go inside and that's why this demolition is supposed to happen. the fire chief says it's supposed to be a partial demolition so the top floors are the ones that will be torn down and the roof has already collapsed on to the top floors. building owners reportedly want to try and keep the ground floor intact and that area you seaboarded up, that is where two area businesses were located but again this whole demolition process is supposed to take place about a week from then, live in berkeley allie rasmus

allie rasmus is live where there are new safety concerns this morning. allie. >> reporter: firefighters furse responded to a call about -- alarms going off in the apartment building just before 9:00 last night. and more than 11 hours later firefighters are still here. that ladder truck there were still shooting water into the sides of the building a couple minutes ago, and right now you can still see smoke coming out of that second story window. if we pan over to the top floor of the apartment building, you can see the roof classed and there's still smoke pouring out of the roof here. at its worst, this was a five- alarm fire overnight. fire crews from across the county came in to help berkeley fire put this out. fire is under control now, but again they're still putting on the hot spots this morning. there are about 40 to 50 apartment units in this building. we've contacted the red cross this morning to find out how many people were displaced by the fire because everyone had to evacuate and get out. we have not heard back from the red cross yet this mor
