kristin, can you hear me? >> how many more people have been arriving in the time we have been discussing? >> the crowds are definitely continuing to grow and goes all the way up, almost an entire block here. it was a smaller crowd growing since the time that word got out that the jury had reached a verdict and seeing la toya jackson and michael's sister pulled up in her black car and the crowd began scramming and yelling and chanting, justice for michael. they have been very supportive of the jackson family. the family has been in court at least some of them every day of this trial over the past six weeks. they vowed to be here and they have been. his parents, joe and katherine and la toya just arrived. janet jackson was staying down there and not returning for the verdict, but they are in the courtroom and waiting to hear if conrad murray has arrived here. we have that staked out and watching for him as well to arrive with the attorneys. we are less than 15 minutes away from hearing what the jury decided. peo

kristin ayers on how protestors plan to pull off this masstive strike. >> reporter: they just had a press conference a short time ago. that strike is set for wednesday, hoping to shut the city of oakland down. if you look behind me you can see how the tent city on the city hall lawn has expanded some small businesses in the area are now worried about what it could mean for their bottom lines. >> we're drawing the line, now, we're saying no moritz a build up to a strike that could impact the city of oakland. thousands of people are being urged to walk out of school and work to join occupy oakland. occupiers are planning by repairing and rebuilding putting in walkways. >> while the pallets are nice, they are not spaced properly. >> fire inspectors combed the camp and found things they said needed to be fixed. >> 10-foot spacing. >> reporter: over the weekend the massive movement brought fringe groups to a protest that has been mainly peaceful. occupy oakland is distancing it. >> we could not support violent action in any way or shape. every time i have been involved in a march and things ge

luke russert is live on capitol hill and kristin welker from the white house. these candidates are critical of the president for being absent in the run up to the super committee deadline. what reaction has there been from the president on this lack of progress? >> the white house first of all pushing back against the notion that the president hasn't been involved. the press secretary jay carney making the point that the president did put forth his own plan for deficit reduction. he has been in contact with some of the members of the super committee, albeit not as frequently as this summer in the debt ceiling debate. they point to the fact that congress came up with it so it really is the responsibility of congress go get something done here. interestingly and not surprisingly, the white house said it's really republicans who should shoulder most of the blame for this for not budging on tax increases. having said all of that, if the super committee can't come up with a deal which it doesn't look like they are going to, there will be plenty of blame to go around

kristin? >> reporter: that's right dana, the city has completely changed the rules as far as how long these protestors can stay in franco gal oh plaza. you've seen the pictures of them back in the plaza. they said at first they could only stay there during park hours. now they are saying they can stay there as long as they want provided they don't camp. an eviction that police say went off peacefully, cops moved in tearing down occupy oakland tents along the way. all but a few dozen protestors moved out. 32 arrested at the camp. and later, this man, cuffed and carted off after spitting on officers. it took roughly 300 officers and cost the city between 300 and $500,000 to bring in officers from other departments, money taken from oakland's $30 million reserve fund. >> interview: we had to bring the camp to an end before more people were hurt. >> reporter: then there is the political cost to mayor jean quan, her chief political advisor dan segal resigned today and her public support appears to
