in an effort to save money two new jersey towns are merging. it's a move that may be tried in other parts of the country. fox's laura ingall has the story. reporter: it's the first significant consolidation in the state of new jersey in 60 years. >> it's an idea whose time has come. reporter: advocates for the princeton merger say combining services like trash collection and police departments is expected to save at least $3.2 million a year overall which will trickle down to a significant savings for locals. other states are keeping a close eye on the move. you have pennsylvania with 2,500 municipalities. they've already reached out to citizen groups. florida, new york states. new york state you have governor kumho when he was attorney general, he pushed -- governor cuomo when he was attorney general, he pushed through legislation so the people have power to consequence date. they have thousands of taxing districts up there. reporter: some local officials say a one size if it's all solution may not work for other towns considering consolidatio

the boeing 767 had taken off from the airport in new jersey, new jersey, -- newark, new jersey headed to warsaw, poland. 231 people on board. four hours into that flight the passengers say the pilot came on the speaker to tell them about a problem. the landing gear would not come down. that video shows the plane moments before it landed. you can see the wheels are still up there. the pilot had circled the airport for about an hour dumping fuel and then he plane down right on its belly. you can see it touching down tail first there some passengers say they were pretty stressed by the whole thing. understandably so. a few of them overheard saying their final farewells. another view as it came in for that landing. you can't see them here but we're told two f-16's escorted the jet. in shot off sparks as it scraped along the runway. crews had sprayed fire retardant foam on the runway and the jet came to a safe spot. passengers all evacuated and incredibly nobody was hurt. chief fox report chief correspondent jonathan hunt is with us tonight. what a feat for that pilot. >> it was. imagine y
