reggie is live there tonight with the latest. reggie, are university police going to move in? >> reporter: occupy cal protestors have been out here most of the night. there were over 1,500 that gathered at sprowl plaza earlier this evening. they merged with occupy oakland protestors there were a variety of speakers. he is in supporter of the movement and wants them to speak out more about the problems that are playinging the united states -- plaguing the united states. many of the people here took a vote on whether to pitch tents here in sprowl plaza. and they overwhelmingly approved that. all of the tents went up. there's about six so far. police are taking a hands-off approach at this point. they have not moved in to remove the tents like last wednesday. now, the chancellor here said he will not allow an encampment to form on campus, but he says he's still in discussion with the students about the tents. >> again, several thousand occupy demonstrators are now on the campus of uc berkeley, planning stay over night. we will stay through this newscast and give you know update.
