that's a fox watch across america. i'm shepard smith. this is the fox report. it's the bottom of the hour, time for the top of the news. and the north korean military putting on a show of strength just, well, just after the death of the dear leader kim jong il. a senior u.s. defense official confirms north korea test-fired two ballistic missiles last night. and even though the tests were supposedly planned well in advance, officials say the north koreans could be trying to send a message to the world. jennifer griffin with the news. she is live in washington and the cube here in new york tonight. what do we know about those missiles and, well, that message? >> well, u.s. officials confirm, shep, the north fired two short range ballistic missiles similar to these russian fs 21 missiles which are fired from the back of a truck. the two missiles landed in the sea off north korea's east coast. their range just 75 miles. u.s. defense officials confirm they did not pose any threat or destabilize the peninsula. the message was, in essence, we're still here. >> shepard
