of the nevada caucus tonight. we have a first look at the entrance polls. that's what we call it on a caucus night. let's go to tamron hall with some numbers. >> reporter: chris, we have two groups of people that we're watching for tonight. a greater share of the caucusgoers are tea party supporters than we have seen this year. look at this number. 74% of today's caucusgoers say they support the tea parties. that compares to two-thirds of voters in the florida and south carolina primaries and in the iowa caucuses. of course, nevada is the first state in this year's republican contest. mitt romney is mormon. an interesting thing we want to highlight. more mormons than nonmormons will emphasize the importance of moral character. 32% for mormons and 15% for nonmormons. >> thanks, tamron. anthony terrell is in minnesota joined by ron paul. >> chris, i'm joined by dr. ron paul. dr. paul, early numbers coming in expected to get 25%. four years ago you got 14%. how is the increase going? >> i think it's doing well and ho

karen, you played a role in having nevada designated as first in the west, why nevada? >> a couple things, they were -- as -- the west had been a place where democrats thought we could see some important gains, because we hadn't been doing as well in the south. when we made those changes to the primary calendar, the republican party essentially adopted the same changes. what we looked at, though, was high latino population, as chuck said it's very different demographic, that these are mostly of mexican descent who tend to be more democratic versus florida, which is a different mix. we also were looking at union density, which is the people who work on the strip. one of the things i note the for tonight, they aren't making any special accommodations for the waitresses, the folks who work along the strip. >> i remember that issue. >> where you had your i.d. you could come within a certain period of time, and they're not doing that. which obviously i suppose is because you don't expect there to be too many republican voters coming out of the strip. >> only after they've lo

joining us this evening from nevada is the former nevada goch chair and current ging ri67 supporter sue lowden. has he lost the big mo? it seemed like he -- but it's been downhill ever since. >> well, he's the comeback kid. he's been down and out once or twice before. i'm sure he's planning to make a big comeback. >> tamron hall showed us -- and she stressed the economy, debt and electability on the minds of your fellow nevadaens any surprises in that? >> not at all. i was a presignature and site manager, so i heard firsthand from people who got up and spoke at our precincts. the economy is very much on everybody's mind here. we're the highest unemployment, the highest in foreclosure. people are really hurting here, and they spoke about that in the caucus. they also spoke about electability a lot in our caucus today. >> i recognize your state has been hard-hit i'm won't serious, has that economic message, will that have to change? i'm thinking the fact that 243,000 jobs were added in the last month. the dow had its best close since 2008, and nasdaq had its best clo since december of 200

let's talk about the nevada. it has the fastest hispanic growing population in the nation. 26 percent i understand. and the most vocal proponent of immigration is mitt romney. yet it appears he's doing extremely well and will probably win in nevada tonight. how do you explain that? what does this tell you going forward in the national election? >> well, i don't know, judge, if it tells us a lot about nevada and the hispanic or latino population there. at least according to the entrance polls going in it's 5 percent hispanic latino call themselves hispanic latino of all of the caucus goers. how they broke down we will find out in the next few minutes. the population very small at least self identified going into the caucus site. the immigration issue the stamps by mitt romney is a big general election issue. democrats will try to hit on that hard because the democratic plan to reelect president obama has a pathway to western states. that is a part of the reelection. they hope to take some of those rern states espe

what does he need to do in nevada? >> i think what newt's got to get back to, he's got to get back on offense. i think there was too much talk about how much he's being hammered, all the negative ads very reminiscent of the last time he surged as the front-runner position. he at his best when he is playing offense. you know, newt is sort of the charles barclay of political candidates. barclay once said i ain't on this league to play defense. newt is best with the ball in his hands dribbling towards the basket. when he's trying to get back on defense, that's not his best. he's got to get back on offense and get back on offense in those southern states where romney is going to have a lot of trouble winning delegates. >> did you see any indication of that happening with his speech last night? he didn't call mitt romney and congratulate him. in his speech, he talked about all these grand things he would do following his inauguration. is he playing that offense that you say he needs to play? >> i think that's a good first s
