not everyone who lives in san francisco works in an -- san francisco. i would like to emphasize that part of the solution to our structural housing affordability problem and economic competitiveness is high efficiency low-cost, regional and citywide transit access. this actually boosts the opportunity for businesses to hire middle income workers who may not be able to live in the city and vice versa. it improves the competitiveness of the city as a central location where access is easy compared to the other suburban locations. i want to get back to the housing affordability issue. i chose the slide because he represents our long term structural problem. it is sisyphiean. this exacerbates the housing burden. this is the difference. i am sure if mr. egan can look back further into the 1980's in 1970's. what you will see is an ever- growing housing burden on the middle class. without expanding production, this burden will likely continue to grow. exacerbating the number of people who need subsidies. and so as it is we have a small subsidy by and we have pr

i was born in san francisco, moved to the peninsula, raised my family there, moved back to san francisco eight years ago. my day job, in addition to civic activities, i am an angel investors. since 1994, i have invested over 600 companies. it is very interesting to see -- and most of these companies are in the bay area. there are about 200 companies that are active today. of those 200 companies, most of which in the bay area, over 52% of our portfolio in sv angel are in san francisco today. what is significant is, in 2005, 75% of our portfolio was in silicon valley, i the south of san francisco. so there is definitely undisputed the migration of tech companies to san francisco, and we want to support that. some of the company that i am an investor in that will lead the charge in san francisco, twitter, ising guy, jawbone, eventbrite, trulia, and google. approval has a large office in san francisco. we think the tech community in san francisco needs to finally get active. ed

>> we are talking about local san francisco businesses. supervisor avalos: in the event authority sees it that way? >> yes, absolutely. in construction, their two pier projects, building a back wall on pier 29, and repairing pier 32. the bid document is in process for the projects, requiring advertisement and outreach to lbe. this is certified san francisco human rights commission with the general contractor has been selected, power engineering. they completed all of the requirements and have committed to meeting or exceeding the 25% lbe goal. power engineering is working with the event authority. and the san francisco human rights commission is at the table. we will be hosting a pre-bid meeting in a couple weeks. we are actively of reaching to lbe contractors to engage them in the bidding, -- process and get them on board. the work on pier 30-32 will begin in april. the other work habits much later on, perhaps next year. now we get to accountability. the event authority has put in place accountability provisions. the plan includes contrac

i am "the san francisco chronicle" waterfront columnist and and part of san francisco yacht club. i can also say we have increased our membership, seemingly directly in connection with the america's cup, san francisco being chosen as the location. we urge you to support the items before you and to get on with identifying and planning for the legacy uses and development of the waterfront to increase access. moving this ahead will also help us with our planning for hosting teams and welcoming visitors to san francisco. putting on my consultant hat, i might comment on a couple of the questions you had earlier. with people coming to san francisco, this is just anecdotal evidence, but i have heard from various sailing clubs from southeast -- from south beach harbor, and various harbors, that bookings are increasing. hotels have contacted me with interest in the cup. they are getting interest in bookings for rooms as well as meeting space and the new space. we are seeing activity around the other sectors of the city. as far as fund-raising, it is difficult to fund raise as long as there

and, eventually, san francisco. the peninsula segment of the plan is anchored by stations in san jose, with options for intermediate changes between the two. as has been mentioned by others this morning, san francisco has long been a proponent of high- speed rail in california. the city is the only entity within the nation that has committed personal, direct local funds to the construction of a high-speed rail system. $1.6 million to begin construction of phase one. it is to open in 2017. it is not only a dramatic architectural accomplishment, but it will provide connectivity to the regional and local bus system, with local activity presented to bart. phase two will connect regional and inner-city high-speed rail systems within california. the san francisco high-speed rail working group was established two years ago, primarily to respond to challenges that were identified within the alternative analysis report that was released by the authority, calling for the construction of various options for high-speed rail wit

the numbers of people boking in san francisco -- the numbers of people biking in san francisco are skyrocketing. that is good for our environment, public health, and quality of life. it is also good for our local economy. more people biking and walking means more people visiting our commercial corridors, shopping, eating, in the local economy. that is for all the neighborhoods in our city. there is a great new study by -- i have to get the name right and give them credit. the political economy research institute in baltimore. the new study shows infrastructure projects around biking and pedestrian projects create more jobs than traditional road projects. on average, the projects create 11 to 14 jobs per $1 million spent. traditional road infrastructure projects create on average seven jobs per $1 million spent. we are really proud of that. we want to make sure we're pumping more money into our local economy with more jobs, more people biking, and frequenting our commercial corridors. we look forward to repaving 17th street and many more.
