now, the victim is a 47-year- old man from fairfield. he was shot in the driveway of his home around 8:30 last night. the house is in a very residential neighborhood on the 1100 block of hayes street. so it was actually neighbors who called police, reporting they'd heard gunfire in the area. when police arrived, they found the 47-year-old victim in the driveway suffering from several gunshot wounds, and he later died from those injuries. but before the man was airlifted to the hospital, as we mentioned, he was able to tell police that he didn't know the guy who shot him. >> he was conscious and breathing at the time we arrived. he was able to give us some information and the suspect description we broadcast came from him as well as other witnesses. reporter: and those witnesses say they saw a man wearing dark clothing running from the scene. that fits the vague description that the victim also gave police about his attacker. the question for many neighbors in the area is was this a random crime, a break-in or a robbery. but police say at
