in wisconsin. last year prosecutors in wisconsin looked into a barbecue-for-votes scandal in which chicken and ribs were given out in exchange for voters filling out absentee ballots. mitt romney has won the wisconsin primary tonight but apparently not before breaking state law in the process. obviously nobody expects romney is going to be prosecuted for subgate. that kind of unforced error, though, is kind of what wigs s wisconsin has been like for him. there is an oorg gumt that wisconsin should have been a gimme, all gain and no pain. their really competition left in the race at this point is rick santorum who has been campaigning in wisconsin by saying things like, at the university of california, they don't teach american history anymore. he's been saying things like, in holland, there's mass murder by the state of elderly people. and elderly people are all fleeing the netherlands to get away from the killer dutch government who kills them every time they go to the hospital. it is not fashiona

mitt romney is predicting victory in wisconsin. if he win, he could reach the halfway point. rick santorum says he'll stay in the race no matter what happens tomorrow but a number of senior republicans are calling on him to quit. >> reporter: mitt romney is leading the pack but he still needs to more than double his delegate count in order to secure the gop nomination but that's not stopping him from going after president obama as if he's leading the republican party. mitt romney predicts he'll win tomorrow's wisconsin primary and the republican nomination. >> can't wait to get america back on track. >> reporter: while campaigning in middleton, wisconsin, mitt romney looked forward to a november battle with president obama. >> this president can't run on his record, and so he's going to try whatever he can to divert to some other kind of attack and have people disqualify nominee. >> reporter: a win in wisconsin could put romney firmly in control. he only needs 18 more delegates until he's halfway to the number needed to clinch the nomination. 44 delegates are at stake in wisc

the wisconsin democratic party. the wisconsin democratic party is filing a lawsuit for violating state election law. what do you know about this? >> well, wisconsin's a pretty old-school state. and it has always had a law going back the better part of a century against giving away free food or free drinks on election day. we didn't want to have what some people referred to as that chicago-style politics. and so it's a very purist state in that regard, and there are strict laws. to be honest, i find it hard to imagine anybody would decide to vote for mitt romney in return for a subway sandwich, but ryan himself should have known better. i mean, this is something every political figure in wisconsin knows. you don't give away free food on election day. >> well, there's got to be a commercial here with this video somewhere that the republican party is at the head of a bread line giving bread out to people. i mean, there's got to be a message there because that's exactly what maybe ryan's budget is going to do to some pe

the reason wisconsin actually is, because there's a three-week break now after the wisconsin primary on tuesday. so if rick santorum does not win wisconsin, he knows there is very little oxygen to take him forward into pennsylvania. so i think that we just can feel it in the party. the republican leaders and voters are losing a bit of patient, i think, with this. >> absolutely. with wisconsin, i think, what mitt romney can get with the win is something he's not been able to get all along, which is consistent momentum. it's been like this. he's going to be able to get that. not just that. like jeff said, there's a break. the next is going to be pennsylvania and several other northeast states, which probably will go for romney. pennsylvania also is going to be a huge, huge potential problem for rick santorum because it's his home state. he was doing so well. now it's neck and neck. it's one thing for santorum to lose by 18 points in a general election in a bad year for republicans. it's another thing if he loses his home state in a republican primary. >> you have to make that political
