we joined our correspondent live, brian williams, on the line from athens. the mood is somewhat optimistic that evangelos venizelos and the pasok will succeed in creating a new government. do you think he can be successful are you doing so? >> well, that miracles can happen. frankly, the two parties we're talking about -- [inaudible] it would require a remarkable change of mind at this late stage by the two biggest parties for any coalition. >> there is support from a new poll out, showing that the anti- bailout left is leading in public opinion right now. how is that weighing on the coalition talks at this hour, do you think? >> i think the general mood is, yes, a lot of people were thinking that the two main parties, pasok and the conservatives, would come back strongly. i do not see any sign of that at the moment. one of the decisive things will be, if we do go to new elections, the turnout for the election just concluded was a very small. only 16%. 30% of people are more likely to vote in the second election, and that could be very decisive. >> germany a

i am joined by our correspondent brian williams on the line from athens. he says he is abandoning his didn't -- it tends to form a cabinet. where do we go from here? >> i imagine it will be picked up by the leader of the socialist party which won the last election in 2009. they literally are the third party, and they are the last party that will try to get to a coalition. but frankly, with both the leading party and the latest election and the second party both far, far apart, there seems little hope that pasok will be able to bring them together. >> and that will lead to fresh elections. >> that is the one last throw of the dice after pasok has its try. there will be a meeting of all the party leaders for one last effort to get them to agree. there's little hope of that happening. we seem as though we are inevitably going to have new elections on june 10 or june 17. >> is anyone in the country warning of the consequences again of abandoning austerity and the country basically turning its back on brussels and the imf? >> i think that is one of the things t

for more, we're joined by brian williams in athens. talk to me about this talk of a run on the banks in greece. is that what we're seeing right now? >> well, there is anxiety. there is nervousness. you can hardly have a conversation in greece now without somebody asking you for advice on whether to keep money in greece or send it overseas or put it under the mattress. but i do not think that anybody has said the actual panic button yet. i did my own in fall more -- informal survey, and there's no sign of kew said banks, no sign of people lining up to pull out money. obviously, some people are doing it. it is happening. but not at the panic stage. >> is the election next month -- is that being talked about as a referendum on the euro? will the greeks go to the polls to decide between the euro or the drachma? >> that is very much however buddies talking about this election. in the last election, the 19 days ago, there was a very low turnout. only 60%. people are forecasting that this time there will be about an 80% turnout, which is the

tonight, brian williams sits down in the key players of the situation room. fascinating accounts of the historic raid tonight at 9:00. police responding to three different shootings after a violent night in baltimore. two people were shot on a frederick avenue in southwest baltimore. one victim was treated for a graze wound. police have made an arrest in the shooting. police were called to the scene of another shooting of piedmont avenue. the victim was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. the third shooting brought investigators to south hanover street in brooklyn. that victim is listed in critical condition. a woman is recovering from multiple stab wounds, allegedly attacked by her own son. they got into an argument at their home in westminster. the mother had to be flown to shock trauma for treatment. >> two people accused in the shooting death of a baltimore girl took a plea deal. the girl was found in an alley near belair road. police have described the shooting as an accidental. one- person pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. a 12-y
