she was just months short of her 18th birthday when she shot her 62-year-old mother, brenda, last summer. ashley's boyfriend, eddie, was also convicted for being an accessory in the case. he's due to be sentenced next month. >>> and jury selection began today. the former penn state assistant coach facing 52 counts of abuse of ten boys over a 15 year span. about 220 potential jurors are in the pool. the judge says he is hoping to start the trial on monday. right now, nine jurors have been seated. >>> and there is new information tonight about the driver of that car that crashed into a riverdale apartment building over the weekend. tonight, police say 36 was not behind the wheel as she claimed, instead, she was covering for her husband. 39-year-old david smith. tonight, smith has been charged with driving without a license. his wife is charged with giving a false report to the police. >>> a dramatic faceoff today between occupy d.c. protesters and u.s. marshals. the occupiers were protesting the eviction of a family. kristin fisher is here with more. people at the hospital? >> that's right

. >> reporter: brenda marberry works with children who spend time with their fathers who are serving time. her own 11-year-old daughter got to visit her father in a ohio prison years ago before he was released. >> who is the first man that a little girl loves is her daddy. >> reporter: bonding with daddy is a mission of hope house d.c., a nonprofit that puts on a free summer camp. for one week children ages 9 to 14 spend five hours a day with their dads behind bars. >> what happens at summer camp is kids leave knowing that they're cherished and loved by their parents, even though that parent may not be there every day for them. >> reporter: carol finley is the founder. she says when a father goes to prison, children feel abandoned. >> kids tend to do better, have better behavior issues once they have an experience with their dad. >> reporter: the connection with dad continues through an ongoing reading program where dads record dvds of themselves reading to their children. >> the children love to see the books come in and it builds their reading skills and the dads love to read to th

brenda martin's gave her a copy of doctor seuss' book, the places you will go. he bought it 13 years ago. over the years he secretly asked every principal and teacher she ever had to sign each pain of the book. martin was brought to tears.
