joining me now for some insight on the event is fox 5 political analyst mark plotkin. so, mark, it seems karl rove's attendance has raised flags for campaign finance watchdogs. why? >> here's the deal, maureen. he is the head of a superpac called american crossroads and the superpacs raise unlimited money. there's no limit to individual contributions and they're supposed to not be coordinated with the official romney campaign or for that matter, any political campaign and there's karl rove's picture being escorted in the front page of the new york ifles and also on the washington post and he -- times and also on the washington post and he was scheduled to speak. so this seems to be a direct contravention of the spirit and letter of the law is there shouldn't be coordination between these supposed independent superpacs and these campaign committees and i think you're going to have to make a very creative point to say that how if you're a speaker and if you're there where there's strategy sessions taking place that you're independent of the campaign committee. i'm surpri

let's bring in fox 5 political analyst mark plotkin now to look at all things related to virginia. we'll start with this race. was there any way that george allen could have lost this primary? >> well, if you made a really fans. >>> fancy scenario where the die hard showed up, the most committed, you could make maybe possibly a theory by which allen who has been a house member, a state legislator, a senator and a governor and where money doesn't really mean that much, could have been dethroned, but in a primary i offered on sunday to eat the microphone if he lost. i actually thought his numbers would be even a little better than maybe the mid-70s. radtke does have some support. she got 25% and it shows the tea party, but those tea party people, if it's a choice in november between allen and kaine, the former governor and lieutenant governor, they're going to choose allen. there's going to be no decrease in his support. >> yet another high stakes election in a swing state to begin with and it's going to be expensive at the very least. >> i say 50 or $60 million for a u.s. senate rac

. >>> fox 5 political analyst mark plotkin joins us now. what a week we've, had the second highest ranking d.c. city official resigned, pled guilty to criminal charges. did you man we would be here when this week began? -- imagine we would be here when this week began? you and i were talking about this same issue. >> i did say before if any action was going to be taken, the mayor was under investigation, if they were going to take an action in terms of guilt, they would definitely take it first with the chairman of the council because the chairman succeeds the mayor. there has been no charge filed against the mayor. the mayor is under investigation, but they weren't going to indict the mayor and then they wanted to make sure that the line of succession, the chairman suck seeds the mayor, that if there was -- succeeds the mayor, that if there was a vacancy they wouldn't have two back to back indictments. we don't have that, but that's what they wanted to keep from occurring. >> let's talk about that line of succession. who would replace kwam

fox 5 political analyst mark plotkin joins us. always great to see you. >> good to be here. >> clearly a victory for the obama white house, mitt romney quick to come out and say he will repeal the law in his first days in. first i think that's impossible. second, how credible is he slamming a law he himself implemented in his own state when he was governor? >> that's right. the democrats will make a big deal of that, that his law when he was the one term governor, actually you can see ted kennedy behind him, it was used as the model and rick santorum, remember that name? >> oh, yeah. >> he made a big point of saying it was a form of really almost hypocrisy that a person who passed legislation, guided legislation that became massachusetts law would then say that he is going to repeal it. so he has some explaining to do in terms of his past political history and something should be reminded, though, in terms of political consequences, not one republican in the house, not one republican in the senate voted for this and over 50 democr

we're joined by fox 5 political analyst mark plotkin. mark, let's start by talking with george allen. his history of virginia politics, is it an understatement to say that he's the man to beat tuesday? >> i will eat this microphone. i pledged to do that in other elections but definitely. i mean george allen has 100% name recognition. he's a former member of the virginia house of delegates, a former one term congressman, former u.s. senator, former governor. he's well financed. he has three opponents which you showed who are splitting up the anti-allen vote and it would be a colossal upset if any of those three won and i really almost feel that they don't have any impact on the general election. these three are running to the right of george allen and they're not going to sit home when it comes to the general election in november and that general election against tim kaine who they're calling chairman kaine rather than former governor kaine could really determine the future of who has the majority in the u.s. senate, but george allen is a

mark plotkin joining us now. thank you for joining us. >> reporter: i'm glad to be here. sorry it's under these circumstances. >> absolutely. we heard matt say that council members met behind glass doors and when they came out, they didn't have a lot to say. at last check, kwame brown didn't officially resign. we know you're checking in with the sources. what is going on behind the scenes now? >> what i was told at that meeting is kwame brown apologized to the colleagues and made an important statement, shawn, and said none of the allegations, the bank fraud count, none of the allegations have anything to do with his campaign this with in 2004, 2008, or 2010. and that is clearing the board about the investigation in terms of campaign fivance and -- finance. then, i was told that david catania, one of the at-large members asked him, said look, i'm worried about you, this bank fraud having to do with mortgage applications or home equity loan. are you going lose your house to which fred cook, kwame brown's lawyer said, wait a second, we don't want to get into this. alexander
