oakland. lorraine blanco tells us about the last minute negotiations to save the deal. lorraine. >> reporter: good morning, pam. with thousands of potential new jobs at stake for oakland residence, the council voted 7- 0 to approve this new deal. more than 100 community members showed up their support. the oakland residence and community organizers got a lot of what they wanted. they will bill the new shipping packaging and distribution center and secure the tenants agreed to supply businesses of 40 or more employees to hire oakland residence. after hours of discussion, council members approved the billion dollar proposal at around 11:00 p.m. tuesday night. now this comes following weeks of negotiations between the city, the developers, and several community groups. >> it's not as strong as we would like to see but it's movement, it's progress. at the end of the day we will be here for the next few decades to make sure oakland gets these jobs. we will continue to work with the city and develop

oakland police searching for the gunman who opened fire on i-580. amy hollyfield is live with the latest on the victim. >> reporter: it happened on the highway not unheard of but not very common. police had to process their crime scene they shutdown highway 580 to that on the eastbound side at fruitvale exit around 11:00 last night witnesses heard five gunshots. the man who was the victim did survive the attack. he was taken to the hospital we are told he's in critical condition. police did have to shutdown the section of that highway until 2:15 this morning. a few hours that drive inconvenienced but were able to open it up in time for the morning commute. police have not found the shooter they don't even have a suspect description they are looking for any help from the public they can they are trying to figure out was this road rage or was this person targeted? details we are hoping they will be able to tell us later today. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> 6:32. two east bay families are grieving the loss of two fathers over the weekend while most fa

a fire in oakland near the west oakland bart tracks. they do not know if the tracks are damaged the they're canceling service until they can determine that firsthand. will tran is live on the scene with the firefighting efforts. well, why cannot determine if there has been damaged? >>will: they still have not gotten a good look at it. here is a shot from about two of its the gulf. finally, firefighters felt it was safe enough to let the bart engineers walked on the elevated platforms, you can see them, finally after about 2.5 hours, getting a close look at the bart tracks. at this point they have shut down bart service after west oakland. it could not have happened at a worse place. the bulk of the travel clothes from san francisco to oakland in oakland to san francisco. that has been shut off until engineers determined if there has been damage to the bart tracks where the elevated platform. also, they could not tell us, even if there was superficial damage how long or how soon and bart service would resume. at least for now, they said
