we do now have chief scott graham with montgomery county fire and ems. chief graham, are you there? >> i'm good. now are you? >> i'm good. give me an update what's happening there. >> we're receiving a higher than usual number of calls, most of which had come out as wires down, wires across or tree branches across weirs arcing transformers, et cetera. we -- wires arcing transformers, et cetera. we did have some reports of trees on homes and have responded to those. we haven't seed any injuries as a result of this storm moving -- received any injuries as a result of this storm moving through. >> blast time we had problems with people driving through standing water. have you seen any reports of that happening? >> i don't think we received enough rain for that really to happen. this can move through quickly. it wasn't a sustained heavy rain. we're seeing more as a result of the lightning and the high winds that have moved through. we do have -- there are some roads, nonspecific at this time. we've just had units responding to other calls that said they can't get past certain roads beca

. >> reporter: montgomery county assistant fire chief scott graham says the sleeping dispatcher is an experienced uniform firefighter who was 17 hours into a 24-hour overtime shift. the news4 i-team found the dispatchers work twice as long it's other dispatchers in our area. jeffrey is the union rep for firefighter dispatchers. >> my team like a long shift to somebody who is not used to that work schedule, it is something that is just normal for a firefighter to work. >> reporter: both he and the county say this is the first time someone has fallen asleep during a 24-hour shift. >> now he is all blue. >> reporter: we counseled at least 18 snores on the april 4th recording before the dispatcher finally wakes up and doesn't realize the woman has been on the line for more than four minutes. >> he stopped breathing for a little while. now i put my hands on his chest. >> -- ma'am, what's the address? >> reporter: the county says the patient was transported to a hospital and is okay. 911 dispatchers are now in a renovated call center where a supervisor can see all the dispatchers. the count

montgomery county assistant fire chief scott graham is on inphone with us to talk about what kind of problems you all are experiencing in montgomery county. chief graham, are you there? >> yes, how are you? >> i'm fine, thank you. how are you? how is montgomery county? what are your issues? >> well, in a word, we're standing up and monitoring the weather throughout the evening. the wave that went through this morning or later this afternoon, a lot of those flooded areas have begun to recede. but not to let that deceive anybody. with additional rain coming through this evening, until approximately 10:00, 11:00 tonight we need to monitor all flooding areas very carefully. montgomery county did activate a partial emergency center and ask agencies such as the police, fire rescue and department of transportation and the utilities to report to the eoc and actually monitor the storm and the activities associated with the storm as it goes through this evening. >> any reports of any injuries from this storm? >> no, not to this point. we've been blessed so far that nothing has occurred. signif

scott graham with the montgomery county fire and rescue. we appreciate you taking the time. thank you. >> doug can we assume for people in montgomery county and the district and fairfax that it's pretty much out of it now? >> yeah. we can start to assess the damage across that area and notice the trees down. we were showing the live shot out in tyson's corner a minute ago. one thing you notice is we don't have the rain falling any more, not the heavy rain. and notice the tree, that tree is no longer moving. you don't see the wind any more. just a light breeze. but here in northwest, pretty much the same thing. you see a bit of wind and lightning out there. but the flag is on the -- just on the side of the pole. we're not talking about the winds gusting any more. if you live in the district or fairfax county or montgomery county or frederick county, maryland or to the south, you are going to be a-okay. around the capital there is wind and rain falling. and tons and tons of lightning. i mean just look at this lightning that we've got across the area. this lightning is simply a

i think it was scott graham and he was saying the cars could not be going through. that is very, very swift-moving water. and, you know, that is water that is powerful enough to pick the cars up and move it, you know, and trap the cars, stall the cars and can president of the united states the drivers over passengers in a very precarious situation. so, i think they were trying to get an officer up there to close it. i was curious to see if matt ackland could tell us. is matt on the phone? i think -- not on the phone anymore, to see if they were able to get the roots closed. you did hear matt saying the road is no clear of the water. the water is not flowing like it was there in the video, as it was earlier and that is good news. i guess that is passible at this point. >> it's weird how the storm went. you can talk about -- and find out when i came in. i left the potomac and maryland area and i was seeing what was going in damascus in the air, which is crazy and there was sun shining over my house. i felt like i went through the monsoon and it was sprinkling. >> yeah

scott, thanks a lot for that. join us now is thomas graham. and tom, you have been out assessing the damage all over. and i think about the guy who just said, i've got to go to work monday and so does she. and he's stuck in a shelter now. how bad is it? when can you get this guy's power restore the? >> -- restored? >> it's as bad as it has everybody been. not since hurricane katrina. we are looking at about a week before we can get service back. we've asked for mutual assistance crews, just like everything utility, nationwide, it's about 4 million customers out of service. so we're working as hard as we can. right now, we have been able to secure about 175 to 200 crews that are coming from florida, oklahoma, georgia and missouri. >> and you have to drive here, right? >> they do have to drive. and if you can imagine, if you know you're not going to be home for a couple of weeks, you have to go home, you have to pack. you have to put all of your materials together. then you have to get on the road and drive several hundred miles. >> so we're tal
