so the president has the amazing powers in the areas of national security, limited ones in terms of the economy, so again, another reason why we're here talking about that this afternoon. so i want to proceed with my talk with that introduction, speaking a little bit about the history of national security and presidential elections. i'm going to talk about how the different candidates are framing, what i mean by that, what is the big picture that they see of national security issues through, how do they view the united states' role in the world and ability to shape foreign affairs and national security issues rather than the specific issues per se. then i'm going to talk a little bit about the lines of attack. what are their positions, there's line of scrimmage in a local little football game but how will the candidates line up their arguments, what are they going to say, what are they going to say about their strengths and weaknesses of their opponent. and we'll look at it from both perspectives and that should leave us a little time for questions and discussion. so let's turn to histo

discussion for months about the possibility of a casino at the national harbor. that debate could be headed back to the table very soon. governor martin o'malley could announce as soon as today if he will be calling lawmakers back to annapolis for a special session to take up the issue of expanding gambling in maryland. the plan could bring a casino to the national harbor and it calls for allowing table games at the five existing slot machine sites. the measure got support in the senate but it failed in the house. a supporters say it will bring so many jobs and keep the money in the state. opponents say it would not just bring jobs, that it would also bring the possibility of more crime to prince george's county. the deadline to hold a special session is scheduled for august 20. any decision that could happen at the table when lawmakers are called back for the special session would have to then be approved by voters in november. brianne carter, abc 7. >> a sure sign we're getting close to the start of the nfl season. the redskins will kick off training camp in as

and i think we would see the same thing at the international level that we've seen at the national level, and that's a good thing, i would argue, because it keeps a check and balance going. because it's easy to talk about regulating the internet, but it's a very difficult and dangerous thing to do because very often the proposed prescription to fix a problem is much worse than the underlying disease or problem that some party feels they're trying to address. so we've got to keep the internet open, we've got to keep it unified. we need to keep it global, keep it as neutral as possible, and it should be governed by these open, multistakeholder processes that include the technical experts that can make sure the integrity of the system is managed. because the end result that we all want to have is that we should each be able to communicate with anyone anywhere anytime in the world. and for that to happen there has to be this global openness and the integrity in the system. i think that's what a lot of us care about and continue fighting for. >> host: rod beckstrom has the new app world that

the army, the national guard, the national guard association strongly oppose this amendment. last year over 280 members of a bipartisan vote opposed this amendment. appropriations committee chairman rogers, defense subcommittee chairman young have been both opposed to this measure in committee votes and floor votes. chairman young has repeatedly said in 2012 that he opposes it. our military deserves access to the most qualified potential recruits available. a vote in favor of this amendment would handicap our military's recruiting efforts. starting in 1999, marketing the military through sports opened the d.o.d.'s efforts to brand and showcase their services to a specific target audience. the national guard cannot advertise on broadcast television so professional sports sponsorships becomes an efficient, effective means of reaching target markets for recruiting and retention of citizen soldiers and airmen. our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are athletes. it only makes sense to advertise and market to professional sports venues. athletes share common values with the mil
