he never spoke to asian-american groups. he never visited american indian reservations. he never spent time in hispanic or latino communities. he never so much as ever on african-americans although shirley allender's efforts matter here. like some presidents, unlike some president he did not spend any rhetorical effort, but he simply ignored them. when he did at that groups and individuals, and as he may morph his airship such attacks it was an assault on behavior rather than demography. he never attacked people for the class or the race but only for their behavior. he undermined their status, and he caricatured them with a demonic glee. you made in the butt of many famous jokes and poor martin barton if this were never quite the same. he was incapable of wielding anger in him and said things like it is the only evidence we have of life yet growth and progress are opposed, opposed every step, opposed bitterly and blindly. would not be fun to be the target of such an attack. his enemies were not treated as people with legitimate concerns but a reasonable point of view but

these are american success stories. and yet the centerpiece of the president's entire re-election campaign is attacking success. is it any wonder that someone who attacks success has led the worst economic recovery since the great depression? [ applause ] >> in america, we celebrate success. we don't apologize for success. [ cheers and applause ] >> now we weren't always successful at bain. but no one ever is in the world of business. that's what this president doesn't seem to understand. business and growing jobs is about taking risks, sometimes failing, sometimes succeeding, but always striving. it's about dreams, usually it doesn't work out exactly as you might have imagined. steve jobs was fired at apple, and then he came back and changed the world. it's the genius of the american free enterprise system, to harness the extraordinary creativity and talent and industry of the american people, with a system that's dedicated to creating tomorrow's prosperity, not trying to redistribute today's. this is the essence of the american experience we americans have always felt a special kinship with the future these new americans had many questions but none doubted that here in america they could build a better life but in america their children would be blessed more than any but today four years from the excitement of the last election for the first time the majority of americans now doubt that our children will have a better future it's not what we were promised every family in america wanted this to be a time when they could get ahead and put aside a little more for college and do more for the elderly mother that is living alone or give more to their church or charity every small business wanted this to be their best years ever when they could hire more and do more for those that had stuck with them through the hard times. every new college graduate thought it would have a good job by now a place of their own they thought they could start paying back some of their loans in billed for the future. this was the whole band it's not just what we expected, it's what americans deserve. >

are you targeting and african-american audience. >> i wasn't targeting african-americans alone, but i thought since all of these people came from the african-american community, i would focus on that. it is crucial that we reach minority kids. so many minority kids today, if you ask them who they wanted to be, they would name you are an athlete or an entertainer. they only see themselves as being able to succeed in those two realms. athletes, athletics, and entertainment. there is such a wide variety of things that young people can do today to make a significant contribution to american life and to earn a great living and be recognized as doing something meaningful. >> you spend a lot of time talking to kids about this message, especially african-american kids. there are many other avenues besides entertainment and sports. forgive me, it sounds ironic coming from someone with a claim to fame on sports. have you got a message to the young people? >> it doesn't last forever. the crew doesn't last forever. the fact that i'm able to be an author and a public speaker has to do with what i

i want to open up latin- american. number four, there is a problem in a country that has too much debt. what happens is the people who have looked at the amount of debt the country has have shown that if you have too much debt, it slows down the rate of growth of businesses and job creators, and the overall economy. we are going to have to get serious about doing something politicians talk about, but do not do. that is cut spending, cut the deficit, and finally get america on track to have a balanced budget, and i will do it. that is number four. [applause] number 5, we finally have to champion small business in this country, instead of attacking it. almost everywhere i go, people who are in small business say, "why does it feel like the government treats me like i am the enemy? the government is always on my back." the government now has a plan to raise taxes on small business, taking the tax rate from 35% teel 40%. the national foundation of independent businesses has said those tax policies will cost 700,000 jobs. w

every american -- [ crowd chanting "usa" ] -- every american was relieved the day that president obama gave the order and s.e.a.l. team six took out osama bin laden. on another front every american is less secure today because he has failed to slow iran's nuclear threat. in his first tv interview as president he said that we should talk to iran. we are still talking, and iran's centrifuges are still spinning. president obama has thrown allies like israel under the bus even as he has relaxed sanctions on castro's cuba, and he abandoned the friends in poland by walking away from the missile defense commitments, and he is eager to give russia's president putin the flexibility that he desires after the election. under my administration, our friends will see more loyalty and mr. putin will see a little less flexibility and more backbone. we will honor america's democratic ideals, because a free world is a more peaceful world. this is the bipartisan foreign policy legacy of truman and reagan and under my presidency, we will return to it once again. you might have asked yourself if these last

of one president obama and the african-american community i'm joined now by occupy l.a. activist quazi and crema clancy welcome so do you think president obama hasn't done enough to help the african-american community. personally i'm not particularly satisfied with with what has been produced by president obama's administration most of these statistics on the reality of day to day life in the african-american community tell us that conditions have been growing steadily worse this is not simply a phenomenon limited to the obama administration a general decline in conditions in african-american communities has been the national trend at least the sense nineteen sixty eight and we have yet to find any administration which has truly done any of anything effective to reverse those trends for those who are on the bottom of the economic and political rungs of the ladder. and we have some to to six here to illustrate this this downward trend that you speak of if we can pull it off there black americans during the u.s. recession wealth plunged by fifty three percent homeownership

it is about what we stand for as americans. there is a religious war going on in our country for the soul of america. it is a cultural war, as critical to the kind of nation we will one day be as was the cold war itself. and in that struggle for the soul of america, clinton & clinton are on the other side, and george bush is on our side. it is a simple american problem. it is at the core of the american dream. we knew that restoring it would not be easy. we knew it would take more than one term and more than one president. that was before the middle class was hammered by the worst economic crisis of our lifetime. the crisis wrought -- robbed too members of our country of their dream. the crisis did not change who we are. it did not change the american character. it did not change what made us great. it has not changed why we came together to do what we did in 2008. it has just made our mission more urgent. [applause] our first order of business is to recover all of the jobs and wealth that were lost in the crisis. we have made strides in these last three and a half years to get that done. but beyond that, we are here to reclaim the financial security that has been slipping away for more than a decade. the decade before i came into office, your income and wages were not going up. jobs were moving overseas. the auto industry was getting hammered. our job is not just to put people back to work

it hits the opportunity for more americans. again, if you are serious about deficit reduction, and u.s. nothing from people at the very top, you will cut deeply into education funding, deeply into research, science, innovative technologies, and will cut deeply into infrastructure. into infrastructure spending. under the budget plan, it would dramatically reduce it next year. reduce it, not provide a bigger investment as the president called for, but cut it. that is a time when we have needs and also 14% unemployment in construction workers. it will compete with china and india and everybody else in the world, we need a first-class, 21st century infrastructure. had we do that? training and community colleges, -- is a bad investment to do that. to cut that, which allows everybody to reach their full potential. i want to focus on this very important issue -- it hits seniors very hard. seniors on medicare and people who rely on medicaid. there is no doubt that now and over the longer term we need to deal with the issues of rising h

for americans living with disabilities, many of whom are also aging americans, broadband and commuters -- computers can provide even more critical tools for health and wellness. they allow someone with a speech impairment to e-mail her doctor, a person who is mobility limited to its in glasses -- classes online, and for someone else to work at home. 29% of people with disabilities would join the work force if telecommuting were actually a viable option for them. before working at home, however, broadband is now a necessity for anyone searching for a job. many job openings are only posted online. about 80% of fortune 500 companies only accept job applications online. and about 60% of working americans use the internet as an integral part of their jobs every single day. if you do not have broadband, you are increasingly cut off from these opportunities. and unfortunately, ntia's own research shows that they're still too many americans who are on the wrong side of this and digital divide. in collaboration with the u.s. since then -- since his bureau, ntia conducts the most extensive surve
