there's a richmond gives directly across the interstate from the interstate 580 that goes into richmond and then the other way goes across. so i'm up in the neighborhood area and the smoke is actually going straight up in the air and hanging right towards richmond in that area right now. now, should that flatten out, should we get inside you're going to have a couple of problems here. that is and people do have respiratory problems especially the elderly and young could have some serious consequences from that. in addition to that there's a chance that something else was going to catch on fire or the potential for an explosion. this is basically out of control at this point in time. i think nothing suggests they're getting a handle on it. there are fire trucks coming in other areas. this is a very specialized fire. it's very special equipment to deal with it. in some cases you have to let it burn out. there's a how long supply of volatile all over the place as they are in all refineries. having said that there are another cutting the supplies off, moving the supplies away from that just

last night around 11:15 is when the shelter in place was lifted for residents of richmond, north richmond and san pablo all having lived through this mess since last night. the fire contained around 10:40. the shelter in place lifted around 11:15 moments ago the fire -- we are being told the fire is officially out. health officials will keep a close eye last night they were still taking air samples and would continue today and watch the air closely. okay so watching the air very closely this morning. the fire erupted 6:15 last night, crews were on scene, investigating a gas leak here at the refinery. they couldn't contain that leak so they did evacuate the facility, the fire broke out shortly after that large plumes of black smoke seen for miles as people were told to shelter in place. witnesses say they heard explosions like four loud booms, the spokesman was saying he didn't know anything about explosions inside the facility. 5:00 this morning, under 30 minutes, another spokesperson for chevron going to give a news conference. we'll be listening and hopefully bring that to you live. kat

we're continuing to follow breaking news in richmond. a fire at the chevron refinery and here's the latest information. crews have contained this fire but tonight, they're still working to put out all the flames. so this is what we know at this point. the fire started in the number four crude unit because of a crude oil leak that then ignited. one person did sustain one minor injury but was treated right on site at the chef ron refinery. they had their own crews working and then they got aid...

we have good bustlines in our richmond district. i'm always looking at creating more efficiencies and finding where the needs are. there have been some cuts over the years, so -- to bus lines, like along the outer richmond district area that have led many seniors without a bus route to get up the hill or to get down the hill to go either grocery shopping -- so we are looking at how the system might not be closely enough based on the needs of people like, especially seniors, or disabled people. there's also some bustlines that are less used in the richmond district that we are now working with the muni system to think about continuing but maybe reduce its frequency, but continue its access for many people that live in isolated parts of the city. i strongly support stronger youth discount passes and supporting the bus system so that younger people have strong access. we are trying to work with the school district right now and city agencies to ensure that young people get more support. we want them to be lifelong transit riders as wel
