rick reichmuth is live in the fox weather center. rick, what's the latest. >> i will tell you it's such a big storm, jon, even if it doesn't take a direct hip in florida around the tampa area we are going to feel the effects. the storm i have got to tell you today though has had a hard time getting itself organized. a big storm here in the eastern caribbean. it's kind of at this typical stn the eastern caribbean have a hard time getting their acts together. that has also made, the models have a hard time getting a handle on what they think this storm is going to do. one thing that has happened is they have been shifting farther towards the west over the last couple of days. the official track now does not necessarily bring it to a hurricane status as it moves over cuba and haiti, we are going to be talking about a lot of rain there and significant flooding. here's the thing, east coast of the u.s. i think we are fine. that is removed from the cone. certainly moved farther off towards the west, the center of this track far enough away

for more on the storm system itself do to rick reichmuth in new york. rick? >> there is more rain moving adros the area. this is a look at the broader system. if you see showers pulling up across georgia and the main peninsula of florida, all part of the same system. we will continue to see those rotate there. very heavy band to move in toward mobile bay. worst of the rain we have seen today is across coastal areas of mississippi. where they have seen a ton of storm surge. ton of rain as well. but there is a lot more rain to continue to be had here. take a look at new orleans. the last hour have had winds gusting over 50 miles per hour. yellow and oranges are the heaviest of the rain. still right there. take a look at the computer simulation of what the forecast is going to look like here. #:00 p.m. tonight. about now in toward new orleans and the storm. put it in motion and you look all night long. to northern louisiana. tomorrow, the heaviest rain will taper off in new orleans. there is likely to be 10 to 15-inchs of rainier falling, to the north. one thing

rick reichmuth on twitter or put them on facebook page. take a look at the severe weather threat today. deep water is right around clinton the southern end where we have that threat today. north end u.p. of michigan and mainland michigan down towards indiana. tomorrow this slides off towards the east. so. of the northeast into new england upstate new york and down across the ohio river valley that's where we send see the threat for severe weather. tomorrow could be a pretty significant day especially for august. you don't get a lot of severe weather in august. going to see a pretty potent cold front moving through. here are the temps. see that cold front where it is now bringing a much micer day across the northern lanes. areas might not get out of the low 70s today. a big improvement from where have you been. still warm down to the south tomorrow. we will cool t down to the south and start to see the heat build back in to the far northern plains and high plains. 94 tomorrow in rapid city. >> back to you inside. >> thank you so much, rick.

for the latest on isaac here is rick reichmuth in the fox news weather center. >> things i think are going to be getting interesting the next couple of hours. the latest look. that is where the storm is and kind of all day long. you see the dark clouds piling up here at center. that means i think we will possibly see this begin to intensify quickly here. winds at 60 miles an hour. i think we will see that go up and by tomorrow morning looking at a stronger storm. already already rain coming into key west toward miami. that continues throughout the night and by the morning the first tropical storm force winds. winds over 39 miles an hour. big tornado threat the through the day tomorrow across the southern half of the peninsula of florida. isolated tornadoes will be small but could cause damage certainly. i think we will spend a lot more time over water than we hoped. means a better chance for strengthening by tomorrow afternoon going across the keys as a hurricane. the official track up to about a category 2 storm around the central eastern part of the gulf. there is big indications h

meteorologist rick reichmuth has update on what could be hurricane isaac. good evening, rick. >> likely to become hurricane isaac at least offshore around tampa, but strong winds, a lot of rain. maybe a little bit of a surge of water moving to tampa bay. this is a look at latest on the storm. now up to 65-mile-per-hour sustained storm. it's right about 100-miles to the south of the port-au-prince area. close and heavy rain moving over hispaniola now. the moldals look similar to where they did yesterday in toward the eastern part of the gulf and making landfall eventually. around the panhandle of florida. take a look at official track of the storm and what we expect it to do. going close tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon to the guantanamo area in cuba. then it treks off to the north. if you follow what is the center line here, it spends more time offshore. not as much time over land. maybe talk about little bit of stronger storm as it emerges in the gulf. 75-mile-per-hour storm monday afternoon off-shore. by tuesday afternoon, tuesday evening, potentia

reichmuth joins us again with more to tell us. >>> tampa going to get wind and rain, hopefully dodge the worst of the storm the worst of it definitely to the west of it. take a look at where now that's the center you don't see a lot of cloud cover around it after it moved over haiti, broke apart a little. going to spend a little time over land in cuba that is going to change things a little. latest model that we like a lot. take a look at this one, just now moving farther west, kind of putting new orleans possibly back again into play and making a much stronger storm, maybe a cat 2 or cat 3 across parts of the central gulf. we have talking about tampa, but areas farther west are where we are going to see a big impact potentially a significant hurricane making landfall in the central to eastern gulf. if that track verified this is one of the models for precipitation, big swath across the central gulf getting 10 inches of rain or more, they are waterlogged there, major flooding event across parts of the central gulf, this model doesn't bring that much rain to tampa, which would be good

chief meteorologist rick reichmuth is with me now. rick, not all good news for those farmers? >> they needed the rain in the spring. at this point their crops are gone. this is actually going to make it a little bit more difficult for them as they are in there trying to till the land. this is good news eventually for the long-term drought. the pictures that you can see of the drought here really devastating and it's cost at this point over $77 billion to the he economy this year. this kind of an event. take a look now from pine bluff, arkansas. when you get the rain coming this quickly over drought, it causes major problems and the pictures right here show exactly what's happening. when the ground is that dry, it can't soak up the water that quickly and you end up with scenes like this. but there is more rain to be had from this. it's moving farther north as you go to the maps real quickly and see in areas of iowa and illinois by the time we get to the next couple of days, two day rainfall totals some cases 8 inches. >> all right. i want to talk a little bit now about what's h

chief meteorologist rick reichmuth in a live tonight in the fox extreme weather center with more on this. rick? >> yeah, harris. the satellite imagery still a bit rugged and ragged as it continues to pull now to the south of port-au-prince, haiti. there will be impacts across much of the central gulf over the next four to five days. a lot of rain and a lot of wind. take a look at this, there are four different states, louisiana, mississippi, alabama and florida according to this model that will see at least 10 inches of rain in parts of that it's going to cause some flooding. i think we can probably add georgia into that as well by the time we get done with this. as of the 5:00 advisory. there are a couple new changes. we have tropical storm watches in effect from jupiter florida, all the way down through the keys and on the west side just to the north of naples. that means we will likely see tropical storm conditions there within about 48 hours. this is why. the track now coming right across key west sunday around 2:00 in the afternoon about a 65 mile-per-hour storm. the wrong side of t

first up let's go to rick reichmuth who is in the fox weather center. all right, what i think everybody owe-we just saw shepard. he is doing a good job down in new orleans. what everybody wants to know is is this thing tracking west? is it going to miss the city by a little bit or going right towards new orleans. >> the center of it is going to go barely to the west. that's not good news you don't want to be on the right side of it and that's looks like exactly what's going to happen. already major rain headed that big band of rain you see in this last image is about to hit new orleans in about 30 to 45 minutes. strongest winds. winds 60 miles per hour. take a look at this future radar. this is tomorrow morning 8:00. new orleans, right there. all those reds, that's incredibly heavy rain. go to tomorrow night, 7:00 p.m. still dealing with it right there. a world of hurt. it's moving so slow that they are going to be right, it looks like in the outer eye wall. very strong winds, very heavy rain for probably a 12 to 24 hour period. dealing with this in ove

meteorologist rick reichmuth is tracking the storm from the new york fox weather center. good evening. >> good evening, bret. the governor is part of that west is what we are seeing. dissipating not likely the case. the storm really all day long has had a hard time getting going. you can see it here across the eastern caribbean. not well-organized. the winds are still sustained around 40 miles per hour. because it has not gotten its act together and it's less organized it's harder to get an accurate read on where the center of it is. it makes it harder for model we look at to initialize and get a good idea where this is. i got to tell you, our confidence in the forecast is not all that high. to be honest with you. all of the models, though, continue to pull it off toward the west/northwest. but they're trending farther toward the west over time. and that changes the scenario a little bit. first, the official track coming up from the national hurricane center changed now. in the most recent advisory. not bringing it to hurricane status before it hits cuba. it also possibly
