. >> nbc bay area meteorologist christina loren is here now with a look at what we can expect for the rest of the day. that cloud cover was awfully impressive. >> you had some showers come down over your head earlier, marla. that activity ramped up as we have the past couple hours very, very active weather across the bay area. at this point we're getting a bit of a lull in terms of your thunderstorms. i want to zoom in and show you where the action is right now, mostly concentrated south of the golden gate bridge. however, san francisco has had some light shower activity as well. now, you're looking for the red on this radar. that's where we're seeing these embedded thunderstorms. some of them rather strong, producing pea-sized hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours. they're brief heavy downpours, but certainly dangerous if you're going to be out and about commuting. you want to make sure you take it easy on the roadways. what i can tell you is we are not going to be out of the woods for another 24 hours. so we'll take you through that forecast, let you know who's going to get t

a little earlier meteorologist christina loren talking about barbecue and hot dogs. sounds like mother nature is agreeing. >> temperatures are going to be close to averages today which is unusual for a holiday. usually we're dealing with extremes as mother nature would have it. but today temperatures are hot in the east bay but perfect at the coast. so, if you've been making plans maybe for the past couple weeks to hit the beach, you really lucked out. temperatures are going to be in the 70s, even in pacifica. throughout the afternoon today, though, kind of hot in livermore. up to 100 degrees. we do have a dense fog advisory in place. your temperatures are crisp. if you want to go for a run, a walk because you do have the day off you'll be able to do so until about noon in concord when temperatures climb. it all works like this. through the next 48 hours, high pressure is in control so it's going to be on the warm side. we get to your seven-day forecast you'll see we drop off every day all the way through the upcoming weekend. a little bit of a cool breeze. going to

meteorologist christina loren is standing by in our weather center with today's forecast. let's check in with bob redell. he's in morgan hill with more on how cal fire is reacting to today's threat. >> good morning. this lightning threat had produced a red flag warning, the national weather service has since lifted that warning but cal fire is still on alert. we got done speaking with one of their battalion chiefs and asked why are you still on alert. their concern is over things called sleepers. they can smoulder for a couple of days and claire up into a fire. yesterday alone 200 strikes. making sure none of those flare back up. you see the fire spotter towers, they started manning those. and actually it was a good call yesterday, at least one fire spotter was able to guide their colleagues to a fire and get it knocked down. so again, they are concerned about sleepers, again lightning strikes, that can smoulder and they are also keeping a lot of staff over, keeping them on duty. their engines and dozers are ready to go and also they are in my fire crews. and to add to all

christina loren will be along to tell you about a very warm forecast that is coming up. you are watching nbc bay area. >>> good morning. thanks for being with us. i'm marla tellez. >> i'm jon kelley. good morning. this just in to the newsroom, a surprising change of course for the concord teen charged in the crash that killed a father and daughter. >> we have jodi hernandez who got out of the courtroom. >> reporter: the teenager struck and killed the father and daughter along the sidewalk last april. changed his plea to guilty. the victims' family walked out of the courtroom in tears after hearing the teenager admit for the first time that he was driving 72 miles in hour in a 45-mile-an-hour zone hitting and killing the man and his 5-year-old daughter. the teenager pleaded guilty this morning to two counts of manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of reckless driving. his attorney told the court he has written numerous apology letters that the attorney has been holding on to. the teenager tried to get up and apologize in the courtroom, but the family stopped hi

christina loren, are they going to have a break from that today? >> no, actually the winds are going to be strong just about all day long up there. for us they'll be strong at the coast as well. let's start with this live picture here. bay bridge, you can see mostly cloudy conditions. once the sun comes up you'll see a gorgeous sunrise. the official time is 6:47. 40s to start in places like livermore and concord, making this one of the coldest mornings we've had in a couple weeks. it is starting to feel like fall out there. temperatures are going to be comfortable. we'll lose this marine layer by with 10:00, but you can see the fog will be a little more extensive before we hit that time. before 8:00 and 10 :00 it starts to push back out to sea. look at this, we stop the clock at 5:00 p.m. once that marine layer pushes offshore, we're talking about complete sunshine in the city by the bay and up and down the marin county coastline just about all day long into the evening hours. 80 degrees inland, 90 at 4:00 p.m. at the coast about 69 degrees. today

meteorologist christina loren is back to tell us about the weekend weather coming up and temperatures going through the roof. >> hot, yeah, really hot. and it's hard to fathom this if you're just catching up to this newscast. you haven't watched it so far this week. i want to tell you right now it's been really nice especially in san jose. it's going to be downright hot. hot enough for heat exhaustion. from san francisco to san jose we have quite a bit of cloud cover this morning. stronger onshore flow but this is the last day of 90s. i'm talking about low 90s inland, even above average for today, soaring as we head through tomorrow. i want to show you more of your current temperatures. campbell 62, santa teresa at 63. a very mild start with help to boost your numbers up toward that 90-degree mark later on today in the extreme east bay. we're forecasting upper 70s in san jose and it's going to be nice. so the fog will be at its worst between 7:00 and 8:00 and completely clear conditions over the peninsula. then watch what happens, that marine layer slides to the south and once it clea
