michigan, were you surprised for example wisconsin and michigan were not included? >> wolf, i was not surprised that michigan was not included. i mean, governor romney -- i was just thinking back to a conversation i had with him a year ago. and i asked him if michigan would sort of remain a sentimental favorite. and he said he would look at the map and see. so i think that the romney campaign knows that michigan is a stretch. something would have to shift fairly fundamentally in this race with the economy and perhaps other things for michigan to be in play. wisconsin was a bit more of a surprise. wisconsin is a much more of a classic battleground state. even though democrats have won it in the last five presidential elections, it's still been very close in 2000 and 2004. and paul ryan comes from a state that's more of a democratic area. so if he was to win over some of the democrats in janesville, in rocket county where he's from, that could help the republican ticket. the romney campaign i think is going to wait and see what happens with some of the ads that some r

i want you to also weigh in on the michigan governor jennifer granholm, the former michigan governor and her dramatic impassioned speech she had. >> well, you know, maybe if you give us a lot of red bull, we can start impersonating the michigan governor. >> to that point, i think that she did serve up a lot of the red meat to all of the lions in the room. so in that sense she was very effective. but to go back to the president's speech, look, he knew that today's job numbers wrnts going to be what we wanted to, so he, again, rose to the occasion and said, tough decisions. i am asking you the work with me, and i never promised this to be easy and romney left an opening, because he has never asked anybody to put some skin in the game except for the middle class whose programs the romney/ryan budgets cut and their skin is raw. so in that choice of vision, the speech along with the other speeches, it was effective. >> thank you both of you, and red bull and aspirin is the take away here obviously from both of the conventions. you guys are the last ones standing. >> i agree with that. the gentleman from michigan, mr. conyers, had an amendment that would have shortened the sunset by two years. but we won't even have a chance to consider it. perhaps because some of our republican colleagues might also want to support such an amendment. as a result we will not revisit the law until after the end of the next presidential term. and if we had cut shorter this extension, we could do what we should have done but haven't. hold hearings, look into how the law is operating and decide what amendments and protections are necessary to make sure it operates right so that we can collect the intelligence without violating the constitutional rights of americans. i had an amendment that would have required the attorney general to make publicly available a summary of each decision of the fisa court and the fisa court of review that includes a significant construction of section 702 which allows warrantless surveillance with appropriate security redactions in editing. many american citizens and others who have nothing
