>> we would love to get arkansas in 2014. we have a long tradition in arkansas. one of the great presidents, bill clinton. we work very hard down there. tooannot get t specific of our prospects. >> some governors have been lobbying the white house on what they would like to see happen in some of the fiscal cliff negotiations and some of the cuts that republicans want to make in these negotiations could impact the state budget. what do you see as your bottom line and what the cut cannot do? >> let's be clear about this. the president has got this one right. we cannot balance this budget and make the changes we need to make in terms of the fiscal cliff without insuring that we ask the top 1% or 2% to pay their fair share in taxes. they're paying lower income taxes than in almost any time in our history since we implemented income tax. they have had a great deal. president obama said that up for them. -- president bush set that up for them. we ask the wealthy to pay for their fair share. what we had was economic prosperity. when you see the gains they're playing in

he was one of arkansas' finest sons and he served arkansas and our country. 34th governor of arkansas and received a silver star during the battle of peter thorpes. he was born in arkansas on june 4, 1912. in high school, he was a skilled boxer and wonder the state golden gloves title. he waited on tables, washed dishes and fighting in exhibition boxing matches. after college, he served as a marine during world war ii where he distinguished himself in combat and earned the silver star and legion of merit. in 1948, he was elected as the 34th governor of arkansas serving from 1949 to 1953. he was an advocate of civil rights and working to abolish the poll tax. after serving as governor, he continued as a member of the marine corps reserve rising to the rank of major general. he founded the marine corps junior r.o.t.c. at catholic high school for boys in little rock. many of the kids known as kid's kids have followed his example by serving their country. he passed away at the age of 93 in little rock. he was awarded the arkansas historical association's highest accolade, the -- and today

some lingering snowfall is happening right now in the northeast and people from arkansas to tennessee are seeing freezing rain. let's go now to meteorologist bonnie schneider. bonnie, it is a mess out there. >> it is, victor and unfortunately, while one storm exits another one comes in. this one is bringing freezing rain to the mid south. the same region that sought heavy snow on christmas day, we're watching for the freezing rain to continue throughout the afternoon, you can see some heavy rain in louisiana. we actually have some thunderstorms rolling through and that's also impacting mississippi as well. but it's really the freezing rain i'm most concerned with. as the water hits any area if we zoom in, the temperatures are teetering right around the freezing mark so it's definitely cold across little rock and oklahoma city. in the northeast, cold air has filtered in behind the exiting system so now we have temperatures right below freezing in new york city. let's look at the storm system as it works its way across the east for the weekend. this is going to be a big snowmaker for ar

we had a record in little rock, arkansas, on christmas day. never in 86 years have they seen so much snow on christmas. the temperatures are brutally cold. ines in syracuse, new york, it was 20 years. the colder air will filter in and temperatures will plummet down across much of the regions you see here. wind and rain impacting airports. likely to see more delays in philadelphia and washington, and heavy accumulation, a foot or more, all the way across new england. so this is going to impact vermont, maine, new hampshire, upstate new york, mixing in with sleet as time as the low pulls this energy up to the east. you'll be watching for heavy snow in the burlington area. many people might be vacationing and enjoying some skiing at this time in vermont so that's good news. but temperature plummetted in the south. it's only 32 in charlotte and 27 in memphis. so ali, unseasonably cold here in the southeast. this is more like what you'd be experiencing in new york than we would here in atlanta. >> just above freezing in atlanta and in alabama freez

we do have heavier snow right now through northern arkansas and moving into southeastern missouri and also into southern illinois as well. so here is this area of low pressure and it is slowly going to move up to the northeast. so eventually, washington, d.c. and up into southern new bland england, we will start to see more or less rain move in. the snow is going to move into the western side of the storm system.but you can also see the heavier line of thunderstorms moving through southern georgia. we also have tornado watches. and that threat is going to push into the east coast of the carolinas. we could see isolated tornadoes again possible. on top of that, we are looking at possibly perhaps up to a foot of snow, especially off the shores of lake ontario and lake erie with 6 to 12 inches possible in southern indiana. that's a look at the weather across the country. now, here's a peek out your window. in boston, about 37 degrees, but that rain is going to take hold later on today. raleigh, north carolina, has a good chance of seeing thunderstorms today. and pittsburgh, looking at sn
